PURPOSE OF JOB

Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of the specific sport coached.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Compete with a full team in a complete varsity schedule (according to MSHSAA standards).
  2. Implement and enforce athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for head coaches and District professional development meetings.
  3. Responsible for student supervision at practices and contests in accordance with KCMSD Athletic Department.
  4. Assume responsibility for the care of equipment and inventory, inspect all athletic equipment and facilities, verify inventory, and submit documentation to Athletic Director/Principal.
  5. Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship to model desired behavior.
  6. Arrange for systematic return of all school equipment, maintain inventory, and hold student-athletes responsible for equipment not returned per the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
  7. Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and arrange for awards and letters.
  8. All information must be submitted to the Athletic Director within two weeks after the season ends.
  9. Work with the Principal to develop a solid program.
  10. Continue professional growth through clinics and publications.
  11. Handle all aspects of player development, fundraising, promotion, and supervising assistant coaches.
  12. Establish performance goals for each season and evaluate them during and after.
  13. Promote student-athletes’ academic and athletic achievements.
  14. Provide contest statistics to District Public Relations and media.
  15. Complete 8 contact hours of professional development through clinics, meetings, and courses, including the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  16. Maintain a strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and be knowledgeable of collegiate eligibility regulations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Student-Athletes and Assistant Coaches

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possess a four-year college degree and be contracted by the KCMSD Board of Education as a full or part-time teacher, or have 1-3 years of coaching experience.
  2. Knowledge of the specific sport, philosophy, and coaching techniques.
  3. Successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  4. Strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and working knowledge of collegiate eligibility regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, using hands and fingers, reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting objects of at least 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Note: This is a stipend-based extra pay position governed by the Teachers, Librarians, and Counselors CBA, with prevailing pay schedules.
