Job Description: To create an elementary classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a strong foundation in elementary education, tailored to each student's ability; build good relationships with parents and staff.
Job Summary
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and health, using the North Carolina curriculum and appropriate learning activities. Instruct students in citizenship and basic subjects.
- Developing lesson plans and instructional materials; providing individualized and small group instruction tailored to students' needs.
- Utilizing various instructional strategies such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, and discovery.
- Translating lesson plans into engaging learning experiences to optimize instructional time.
- Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to foster a productive learning environment.
- Evaluating students’ academic and social progress; maintaining records and preparing reports.
- Communicating with parents through conferences and other means to discuss progress and school programs.
- Identifying student needs; collaborating with staff to address health, attitude, and learning issues.
- Creating a caring, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Planning and preparing lessons to ensure a balanced curriculum aligned with North Carolina standards.
- Setting clear teaching objectives and high expectations.
- Maintaining discipline and ensuring student safety and health.
- Managing groups and individual students; differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Developing social, emotional, and cultural aspects of students’ learning.
- Monitoring, assessing, and recording student progress; preparing transfer records.
- Utilizing support staff effectively, including parent helpers and para-professionals.
- Participating in staff meetings and school policy development.
- Communicating with parents about academic, social, and emotional aspects of their children’s education.
