Primary Purpose:

To help insure the safety and security of the school building during the time when students are in the building.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
  • Some college and/or technical training preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to multi-task activities
  • Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology
  • Able to work with students with significant behavioral needs
  • Able to develop and deliver professional development
  • Trained in CPI or other crisis intervention program

Experience:

  • None

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • One of the primary purposes of this position is to assist in carrying out the district’s goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and/or staff who work with students at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school.

Program Support

  • Address unauthorized persons for questioning and then reroutes or detains them.
  • Patrol halls and checks on restrooms to prevent students from congregating and loitering.
  • Periodically check parking lots for parking authorization.
  • Monitor in SAC class when necessary.
  • Monitor cafeteria during lunch periods.
  • Assist with canine inspection.
  • Perform bus duty.
  • Work with at-risk students to help improve student performance at school.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used :Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture:Standing, prolonged walking, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion:Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting:Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment:May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

2024-2025 Salary Range Min. $23,799 Mid. $28,117 Max. $32,435 (Based on previous experience)

2025-2026 Salary schedule with 3% of midpoint increase approved by the Board. Salary schedule soon to be released.
