Description

The Chicago High School for the Arts is accepting applications for a licensed Computer Science Teacher for school year 2025-2026.

Position Summary:

The ideal teacher candidate will have the passion and skills to create a learning environment that will offer a rigorous college preparatory education that challenges students to achieve at high levels. Teachers at ChiArts will be required to differentiate instruction; design lesson and unit plans that properly assess student achievement; and use data to inform instruction.

Responsibilities:

A teacher’s primary professional responsibility is classroom instruction of ChiArts’ students. Classroom and professional duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embrace and promote the ChiArts vision, mission, educational approach, goals, and core values
  • Implement trauma-informed, restorative justice, and anti-racist practices
  • Prepare and implement lessons that encourage and foster proficient oral and written expression, critical thinking, applications, and ethics
  • Create structured lessons that prepare students for success in both ChiArts’ curriculum and standardized tests
  • Collaborate with the staff to develop “best practices” tailored to the unique philosophy and instructional approach geared toward the needs of the ChiArts’ student population.
  • Design, administer, and track a variety of student assessment tools
  • Integrate technology into assessments as well as classroom activity
  • Employ outstanding classroom management skills and implement the school code of conduct
  • Submit unit plans using the backwards by design format
  • Seek and participate in continuing professional development
  • Attend and participate in faculty and administrative meetings, parent conferences, open house, other school functions, and in-service professional development sessions
  • Use planning period effectively to prepare for classroom instruction
  • Serve as an advisor in the student advisory program
  • Monitor Study Hall effectively
  • Perform other duties as the needs of the school and the needs of the students may demand
  • Work with artistic staff to ensure overall student success at ChiArts
  • Provide meaningful feedback and grade student work in a timely manner
  • Record student grades weekly
  • Maintain regular contact with parents and guardians regarding student progress
  • Record daily attendance for each class period
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with Illinois teaching certification and endorsement(s) in the proper content area
  • Curriculum development experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the backward design planning process preferred
  • An understanding of the value of arts education
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse population
  • Current knowledge of educational technology and application
  • Expert knowledge of subject area
  • A high regard for student potential and an ability to provide opportunities for students to develop and succeed
  • Willingness to be bold and creative in pursuit of what is best for students
  • Reflective teaching practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams and nurture collegial relationships
  • Able to adapt and improve in changing situations
