POSITION TITLE
SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVER
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Performs responsible semi skilled human support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the problems involved in operating a school bus; general knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets; skill in the safe operation of a school bus; ability to detect malfunctioning equipment; ability to assist children using patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates and students.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have reached the age of 19 by the first day of the school year and have three years driving experience. Must hold successful driving record or be willing to to train for a Commercial Driving License (CDL). Must pass. Must pass physical examination as prescribed by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
