Job summary

Daimler Truck North America in Byesville, OH is hiring a Sr. CNC Tech to create, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for mills, lathes, and multi‑axis machines.

You will translate engineering drawings and specifications into efficient machining instructions and collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production teams to deliver high quality parts. This onsite role offers $32.20 to $45.44 per hour, with quarterly gainsharing, and shift differential.

Qualifications

  • Experience programming CNC machines using CAM/CAD.
  • Strong understanding of Gcode and Mcode.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, materials, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and maintain CNC programs for mills, lathes, or multiaxis machines.
  • Interpret drawings/specs to determine tooling, setup, and machining strategies.
  • Implement processes provided by engineers ensuring tolerances and quality.
  • Collaborate with Tooling Tech to optimize speeds/feeds for cycle time and tool life.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency and reduce scrap.
  • Maintain organized program files and revision control.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturability issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production requirements.

Inside the Role

The Sr. CNC Tech will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs to support production needs. This role focuses on translating engineering process plans, drawings, and specifications into efficient machining instructions. The CNC Programmer will collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers, machinists, and production teams to ensure accurate implementation of engineered processes and high-quality part output

This position offers:
  • Starting pay of $32.20/hr. up to top pay of $45.44/hr.*
  • Quarterly gainsharing bonus potential

*Additional shift differential for off-shifts

  • Develop, edit, and maintain CNC programs for mills, lathes, or multiaxis machines.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, models, and specifications to determine machining strategies, tooling requirements, and setup instructions.
  • Implement manufacturing processes provided by engineers, ensuring programs align with defined methods, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Work with Tooling Tech to elect appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds to optimize cycle time, tool life, and part quality.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency, reduce scrap, and enhance repeatability.
  • Maintain organized program files and revision control in accordance with company standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturability concerns or design‑related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production requirements.
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Experience programming CNC machines using CAM/CAD.
  • Strong understanding of Gcode, Mcode, and CNC machine operation.
  • Knowledge of macro and programming logic implementation
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, materials, and best practices.
  • Problemsolving skills with the ability to diagnose machining or programming issues.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineers.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or precision machining environment is preferred.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing (automotive/trucking) environment
  • Blueprint knowledge, experience operating a Mill/Lathe, gauge experience and computer skills.
  • Previous mechanical experience
  • High School Diploma / GED is preferred and further college education a plus
  • CNC Program schooling is preferred
