Grain Dryer / Dump-Loader Work Schedule

Hours and schedules will vary based on grain harvest activity, grain moisture levels, facility needs, and business conditions.

Daytime Shift Hours of operation will range from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and are subject to change.

Overnight Shift Hours of operation will range from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and are subject to change.

Additional Schedule Requirements Overtime and weekend work may be required. Schedules may change with limited notice based on grain moisture, weather, harvest conditions, equipment needs, and customer demand.

Brief Summary of Job

The Grain Dryer / Dump-Loader position is responsible for safely and efficiently monitoring and operating grain dryers during overnight operations and performing grain unloading and loading duties during daytime operations. This position also assists with facility maintenance, housekeeping, equipment care, and other operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently monitor and operate grain dryers during overnight operations.
  • Monitor grain moisture levels, dryer temperatures, grain flow, and equipment operation to help ensure grain is dried according to facility requirements.
  • Identify and report equipment problems, unusual operating conditions, and safety concerns to management.
  • Assist with starting, stopping, adjusting, and monitoring dryer equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
  • Open and close hoppers on truck trailers to unload grain during daytime operations.
  • Open and close gates to load trucks with grain during daytime operations.
  • Monitor grain flow and equipment during unloading and loading operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the grain facility, which may include: Sweeping. Shoveling. Mowing. Pressure washing. Removing grain and debris.
  • Assist with general facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Perform responsibilities based on daily operational needs, grain conditions, harvest activity, and the type of facility.
  • Uphold compliance with OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the proper care, maintenance, and professional appearance of equipment, rolling stock, and facilities.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous manner when interacting with employees, customers, truck drivers, and other visitors.
  • Follow all established grain handling, dryer operation, housekeeping, and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualities / Skills Needed
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of, and willingness to learn, grain handling and grain drying operations.
  • Willingness and ability to learn how to safely operate and monitor grain dryer equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and measurements.
  • Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to recognize and communicate equipment issues, unsafe conditions, and unusual operating conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, overnight shifts, and alternate shifts as needed.
  • Must be willing to work overnight hours when grain moisture and drying conditions require it.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive while working independently during overnight operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, seasonal environment where schedules and duties may change based on business conditions.
  • Travel: 5%–20% travel may be required at some facilities. Travel may include off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.
  • Ability to work at varying heights, including climbing grain bins, legs, ladders, platforms, and other equipment.
  • Ability to perform work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, kneel, reach, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions

This position requires considerable physical exertion and may involve demanding working conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull 50–70 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions
