Job description

Position: Forklift Operator / Material Handler

Position Hours: 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (Monday - Friday)

Position Wage: $22.00 - $26.00

Summary: This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a forklift. The person will move customer containers and heat treat baskets for load setup, load staging, furnace loading and unloading, plastic wrapping, and placement of finished products in the correct shipping area.

The material handler is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of the production area, which includes organizing empty customer containers (tubs, skids, boxes, etc.), emptying garbage hoppers, and driving the floor sweeper to keep the shop clean and organized.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

1. Load Setup and Staging:

• Arrange customer products for furnace load building
• Set up baskets for racking and load setup
• Retrieve fixtures needed for load setup
• Arrange baskets on staging racks for furnace loading

Furnace Loading / Unloading / Staging:

• Load and unload baskets into furnaces under the furnace operator’s guidance
• Arrange baskets on staging racks for further processing

Packaging Setup:

• Prepare parts for packaging and retrieve containers
• Assist with wrapping parts on skids
• Deliver completed parts to shipping area

Cleaning / Organization:

• Organize empty containers and maintain shop tidiness
• Empty garbage hoppers daily
• Operate floor sweeper to clean debris, disposing of waste properly

Resupplying:

• Retrieve and deliver supplies like quench salt, and restock bathrooms and break rooms as needed

Forklift Maintenance:

• Operate forklift and floor sweeper safely
• Report maintenance issues
• Perform daily maintenance checks

Minimum Requirements:

• Valid third-party forklift certification with behind-the-wheel component
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 2+ years of factory or heat treating experience preferred
• Basic computer and math skills
• Physical ability to lift 25 lbs regularly
• English reading proficiency
• Safety-focused mindset
• Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills
• Adaptability, self-motivation, and teamwork skills
• Willingness to learn and follow directions
