Job summary

McNeilus Steel, Inc. in Morristown, TN is seeking a 1st Shift Welder to join our welding team. The position runs Monday-Thursday, 5:00 am to 3:30 pm with overtime as needed, and involves reading engineering drawings and welding components to spec.

Qualifications

• Understanding, operating and adjusting welding equipment for materials to achieve proper welds.
• Knowledge of steel products and welding symbols.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use measuring tools.
• Read, write and communicate in fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
• Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly and welding operations.
• Determine equipment and welding method using metallurgy, geometry and welding techniques.
• Observe tests on welded surfaces to ensure dimension tolerance and conformity to specs.
• Inspect grooves, angles or gaps with micrometer, caliper, and precision tools.
• Deburr parts using grinder, file or scraper.
• Develop templates and work aids to hold and align parts.
• Weld in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Maintain clean, organized work area and PPE compliance.
• Follow OSHA and company safety rules at all times.

1st Shift Welder | Morristown, TN

McNeilus Steel, Inc. is accepting applications for a new team member to join our welding team. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 5:00 am-3:30 pm, with OT as needed.

Duties/ Responsibilities

• Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
• Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
• Observe tests on welded surfaces for dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications
• Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using a micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments
• Remove rough spots from parts using a portable grinder, hand file, or scraper
• Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Debur parts as needed
• Keep work area, tools, and equipment neat, organized, and clean
• Learn, understand, and comply with OSHA requirements, company safety rules, and health policies at all times, working according to good safety practices as posted, instructed, and discussed
• Use all safety devices, equipment, and PPE as directed and provided for protection
• Performs other duties as instructed and assigned

Qualifications

• Must be able to understand, operate, and adjust the welding machine according to the material being used to achieve proper weld
• Knowledge of steel products
• Ability to use measuring tools, read, and interpret blueprints
• Understand and be able to print weld symbols
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to troubleshoot, work well independently, and as a team
• Be able to read and decipher measurements using a tape measure
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in fluent English
