Job summary

GEO Academies in Baton Rouge, LA seeks an Elementary School teacher to plan and deliver blended instruction across core subjects, using state standards. You will foster an engaging, tech-enabled classroom that builds critical thinking and data-driven progress tracking.

You will communicate with families, collaborate with Special Education staff, and participate in required meetings and after-school duties to support student achievement in a 10-month school year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field and 24 credit hours in content area.
  • State teaching license for Grades K-5 or 6 is required.
  • Strong tech skills, esp. integrating technology in the classroom to boost achievement.
  • Demonstrated volunteer or community service.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a blended learning environment with direct and indirect instruction in Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, Health, and Math.
  • Create an inviting, innovative learning environment that develops student critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Prepare students for strong academic achievement and standard assessments.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and track student progress with data and feedback.
  • Collaborate with Special Education staff to serve students with special needs.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures for order.
  • Attend required staff meetings and school events outside normal hours.
  • Perform duties including morning, lunch, dismissal, and after-school tasks.
  • Support and respond to feedback from administrators.

Description

An Elementary School teacher is required to perform the following duties:

  • Plan and implement a blended learning environment, providing direct and indirect instruction in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, Health, and Mathematics based on state standards
  • Create an inviting, innovative and engaging learning environment that develops student critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Prepare students for strong academic achievement and passing of all required assessments
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, weekly assessments, and occasional parent/teacher conferences
  • Work with the Special Education teachers and administration to serve special needs students in the classroom
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff
  • Attend all required staff meetings and attend designated school functions outside of school hours

REPORTS TO/TERM:
  • Principal
  • This is a 10-month position.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 24 credit hours in content area
  • Valid (State) Teaching License for Grades K-5 or 6
  • Strong technical skills, particularly in integrating technology in the classroom to drive academic achievement
  • Demonstrated volunteer or community service
  • At least one (or more) of the following:
  • National Board Certification
  • Core Knowledge Experience
  • Experience with Blended Learning
  • At least two years of successful teaching in an urban environment
  • Candidates invited back for a second interview will be required to demonstrate strong classroom management skills, excellent instructional technique, a collaborative attitude by two performance-based tasks:
  • Delivering a classroom lesson to our students, particularly including the use of technology
  • Analysis of academic data, with a focus on how the candidate would use the data to drive instruction (sample data will be provided to you prior to the second interview).
