Job summary

Bluewater Consulting Services (BCS) in College Park, MD is seeking a licensed operator to manage gas turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, and auxiliary boilers on a 10‑week assignment. You will provide on‑site licensed coverage during commissioning and startup, moving to normal operations as required.

The ideal candidate holds an active Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer license, with 5+ years of high‑pressure boiler and turbine experience.

Qualifications

• Active Maryland First Grade (1st Class) Stationary Engineer license required.
• 5+ years operating high pressure boilers and steam plant equipment; gas turbine, HRSG, or CHP plant experience strongly preferred.
• Prior experience on university or institutional CHP/district energy systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate gas turbine, HRSGs, steam turbine, auxiliary boilers, and balance of plant systems per site procedures and MD requirements.
• Monitor and control boiler and high pressure steam operations; perform operator rounds and log readings each shift.
• Execute startup, shutdown and normal operating procedures for boilers, turbines, and related systems as directed.

Start Date: ASAP candidates expected to be on site within 2 weeks.

Duration: Approximately 10 weeks

COMPENSATION & LOGISTICS

Pay Rate: $75/hr straight time | $112.50/hr OT (anything in excess of 40 per week)

Per Diem: Expenses while on site reimbursed according to receipts for lodging fuel and all other incidentals, flat rate of GSA max given for meals per day ($92).

Mobilization: Flight and rental car provided for mobilization and demobilization.

Home Leave: Home leave is not provided; any travel home taken during the project would be at your own expense.

Estimated Hours: Typical startup schedule. Schedule is client-directed and will fluctuate week to week..

Project Overview

The project integrates a small Solar gas turbine, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), a steam turbine, and auxiliary boilers to deliver reliable on campus power generation and thermal energy recovery.

The 1st Class Power Engineer will provide licensed operating coverage for the plant as it moves through commissioning, startup, and into normal operations. This individual will operate the gas turbine, HRSGs, steam turbine, auxiliary boilers, and associated balance of plant systems in accordance with site procedures and Maryland stationary engineer requirements, and will support the commissioning team with startup activities as the licensed operator on shift. The role requires an active Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer license and hands-on high pressure steam plant operating experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the gas turbine, HRSGs, steam turbine, auxiliary boilers, and associated balance of plant systems in accordance with site procedures and Maryland stationary engineer requirements
• Monitor and control boiler and high pressure steam operations; perform operator rounds and log readings throughout each shift
• Execute startup, shutdown, and normal operating procedures for boilers, turbines, and auxiliary systems as directed
• Respond to alarms and abnormal conditions; troubleshoot and escalation issues to plant leadership as required
• Maintain accurate operating logs, shift turnover records, and water chemistry documentation in accordance with site standards and jurisdictional requirements

Startup & Commissioning Support

• Support commissioning and startup activities, including steam blows, first fires, tuning, and performance testing, as the licensed operator on shift
• Participate in functional and integrated systems testing in coordination with the commissioning team
• Provide licensed operating coverage during cold and hot commissioning phases and support the transition to normal operations
• Comply with all site safety programs, OSHA requirements, and Client safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and safe boiler operating practices
