Job summary

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. in Lockport, LA is seeking a Pipe Welder with at least 5 years of marine experience or 3 years of continuous company service in a similar position.

You will prepare and weld pipe and fittings according to construction drawings and technical guidance documents. Must hold SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW or SAW certifications, be able to work in confined spaces and at elevations, read and interpret drawings, and operate automated welding equipment.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets construction drawings or guidance documents.
• Operates automated welding equipment.
• May perform pipe hydro/air testing and post-process cleanliness functions like pipe flushing.
• Familiar with standard marine practices and construction specifications.

Responsibilities

• Sets up tools and equipment to weld piping systems.
• Welds pipe joints and fittings after pipe fitter makes up sections.
• Performs welding procedures per drawings and company procedures.
• Ensures welds pass post-process testing and performs repairs as required.
• Minimizes rework or post-process effort.
• Provides guidance to subordinate craftsmen as needed.
• Follows company safety, environmental, and quality policies.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated Pipe Welder with preferably at least 5 years of marine experience or 3 years of continuous Company experience in a similar position . The candidate will prepare and weld pipe and fittings for various material types as specified by construction drawings and technical guidance documents.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum of 5 years of marine experience or 3 years of continuous Company experience in a similar position preferred
• Possesses certification in one or more welding processes: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
• Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces
• Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5’
• Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable

SKILLS

• Can read and interpret construction drawings or other guidance documents
• Can operate automated welding equipment
• May perform system and/or integrity testing, e.g., pipe hydro and/or air testing, and perform post-process cleanliness functions like pipe flushing
• Familiar with standard marine practice, general specifications for construction, and possesses in-depth knowledge of craft-specific processes and techniques

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Sets up and procures required tools and equipment to weld piping systems
• Welds out pipe joints and fittings after pipe fitter makes up pipe sections
• Performs welding procedures in accordance with construction drawings and Company welding procedures
• Ensures completed welds pass required post-process testing and makes repairs as required
• Minimizes rework or post-process effort
• Provides guidance to subordinate craftsmen as needed
• Must follow all Company policies and procedures, including those relative to employee safety, environmental policy, and the principles of our quality system
• Reports to work daily, on time, and works overtime as required
