Job summary

Lehigh Heavy Forge Corporation is seeking a 1st Class Aluminum Shipfitter to lay out and fabricate metal structural parts for hull welding. The role requires following blueprints and locating reference lines to ensure accurate assembly in the hull.

The candidate will lead fitters, tack welders, and assist with drilling, positioning, and securing parts, often in confined spaces while using power tools and hand tools.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of marine or four (4) years of continuous company experience preferred.
• Able to read blueprints, sketches and templates.

Responsibilities

• Determines the position of structural components from blueprints or templates.
• Provides direction to subordinate ship fitters and tack welders.
• Uses blueprints to lay out position of parts on metal.
• Locates and marks reference lines (center, buttock, frame lines).
• Positions parts in hull and aligns them relative to each other.
• Marks holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners for welding or riveting.
• Installs packing, gaskets and structural accessories.
• Tack welds clips and brackets prior to permanent welding.
• Bends, flanges, cuts and shapes heavy metal parts.
• Works with power tools and in confined spaces.

Job Title: 1st Class Aluminum Shipfitter

Location: Lockport, LA

Position Overview: A 1st Class Aluminum Shipfitter lays out and fabricates metal structural parts and braces them in position within hull of vessel for welding.

Key Responsibilities

• Determines the position of structural components working from blueprints or templates.
• Provides direction to subordinate ship fitters and tack welders.
• Uses blueprints to lay out position of parts on metal.
• Locates and marks reference lines, such as center, buttock, and frame lines.
• Positions parts in hull of vessel and align parts in relation to each other.
• Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting.
• Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members.
• Tack welds clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
• Bends, flanges, cuts, and shapes plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts.
• Must be able to perform shaping/cutting material with power tools such as skill saw, jig saw, metabo grinders and etc.
• Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces.
• Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5'.
• Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of marine or four (4) years of continuous company experience preferred.

Skills

• Comprehends blueprints, sketches, and templates.
• Able to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.
• Accurate in performing the following processes layout cutting measuring and fitting.
