BlockReel in Los Angeles seeks a dedicated 1st AC for an independent sci-fi short. You’ll ensure sharp focus and smooth camera operations across 1–2 key LA locations, with a visually ambitious, character-driven story.

Bring your own essential 1st AC kit (focus-pulling monitor, follow focus, marking tools). Prior experience on ARRI or RED systems is a plus; reel/portfolio required. The 3-day shoot runs late November 2026, with prep half-day and ~10–12 hour days.

Job description

Seeking a dedicated 1st AC for an independent sci-fi short film. We need someone ready to jump in and ensure smooth camera operations from day one. This project is a visually ambitious, character-driven piece exploring themes of memory and alternate realities, with a grounded, intimate tone despite its speculative elements. It will be shot across 1-2 key locations in the LA area. Your key responsibilities will include pulling sharp focus, managing camera setup and breakdown, maintaining equipment, and assisting the Cinematographer with lens changes and camera movement. We're looking for someone who owns their own essential 1st AC kit, including a focus-pulling monitor, follow focus, and marking tools. Experience with digital cinema cameras, specifically Arri or Red systems, is a plus. Please submit a reel or portfolio showcasing your focus pulling work and experience on set. This is a 3-day shoot expected in late November 2026, with an additional half-day for prep. The shoot days will likely be 10-12 hours. We will provide all main camera and lighting packages, meals, and craft services. This is a paid position, offering $1000-1500 per day, dependent on experience and gear provided.
