Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is seeking a part‑time aquatic coach in Coatesville, PA to oversee the 12 & Under program and work with youth ages 5‑18. Communicate regularly with members and parents, build season plans, manage meet entries, and train staff to deliver a high‑quality YMCA swim program.

You will assist the Director of Competitive Aquatics, develop season strategies, organize meets, recruit volunteers, and ensure safe, inclusive participation across all levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Competitive swimming experience for a minimum of 5 years (preferred).
• Current lifeguard certifications or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
• At least 5 years of coaching experience with swimmers of all ages.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• YMCA and USA swimming coaches’ credential or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to demonstrate all swim strokes.
• Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff (required).
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
• Display a positive and professional attitude and possess strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coach the 12 & Under age group programming; communicate with members and parents.
• Assist the Director of Competitive Aquatics: build a season plan and implement.
• Maintain team database and all 12 & Under meet entries.
• Staff age groups as needed and provide training.
• Develop vision and season plans for the team and manage coaching schedules.
• Deliver a high‑quality, mission‑focused YMCA age‑group competitive swim program for youth ages 5‑18.
• Coordinate vacation outside the competitive season and assist with annual campaigns.
