Job summary

Northwestern Medicine offers a 12-month APP fellowship in Primary Care for either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Fellows receive leading-edge post-graduate, on-the-job training with structured clinical rotations and mentorship from preceptors and attending physicians.

The program emphasizes multi-disciplinary learning, patient-centered care, and preparation for independent practice in a designated specialty within the Northwestern Medicine system.

Qualifications

• Masters degree from an accredited school/college of nursing.
• APRNs must have Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner certification.
• For Physician Assistant track, must have graduated from an accredited PA program and PA license in IL.
• All required to hold Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Complete credentialing and privileging requirements for inpatient core privileges as appropriate.
• Attend all lectures and educational opportunities for APP Fellows.
• Provide direct care to patients as assigned by clinical preceptors.
• Collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals.
• Develop organizational skills to manage a patient caseload.
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
• Develop knowledge of common disease processes and clinical management.
• Identify learning needs with preceptors to enable independent practice.
