Opterra Solutions, Inc. is seeking a field technician to operate skid steer and excavator equipment for restoration and repair of stormwater assets, including ponds, swales, and basins. The role requires travel up to 75% and coordination with customers on project scopes.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma, 2+ years in related work, at least 1 year operating equipment, and a valid driver’s license. DOT medical card and BMP knowledge are preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience and 1 year operating equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.
  • Knowledge of stormwater BMPs and repair practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret stormwater drawings/plans.
  • Clear vision with/without corrective lenses; able to use PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery including skid steer and excavator to restore stormwater assets.

  • Document problems found in stormwater conveyance systems.
  • Safely operate power tools and heavy equipment.

  • Pay or shift range: $26 USD to $30 USD The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Description
SUMMARY

Operating and maintaining various machinery, to include skid steer and excavator, to provide various restoration and repair services for stormwater assets such as retention and detention ponds, swales, and ditches. Repair of stormwater assets within parking lots, such as various catch basins, will also be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to travel 50 – 75% by vehicle, with overnight travel throughout territory
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work-related experience and one (1) year experience in operating equipment
  • A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and the ability to drive company vehicles
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card
  • Knowledge of various types of stormwater best management practices (BMP)
  • Knowledge of repair practices and operating procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and plans of stormwater systems (grading, utility, stormwater, etc.)
  • Clear vision, with or without corrective lenses, including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Proficient in using various forms of technology to complete tasks effectively and efficiently
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have the ability to sit, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-11 hours a day
  • Must have the ability to routinely lift, push, pull, or move equipment of 50 pounds or more
  • Must have the ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions while completing work assignments (rain, heat, humidity, sun, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to work around water and walk, stand, and move through diverse types of terrain such as uneven ground and sloped embankments
  • Must have the ability to work within confined spaces
  • Must be willing to be in close proximity to wildlife that live in stormwater environments such as snakes, stinging insects, spiders, and other species
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use technology to complete a tailgate brief and app reports throughout the day as necessary
  • Communicate with customers about the scope of work, timelines, and updates
  • Employ confined space entry (CSE) equipment to maintain a safe working environment in confided spaces
  • Visually inspect all aspects of stormwater conveyance systems and document any problems found that effect functionality of the systems
  • Safely operate power equipment such as slope mowers, tractors, UTVs, excavators, skid steers, marsh masters, and zero turn mowers
  • Safely operate handheld power equipment such as string trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, and pole saws
  • Identify and report any hazardous conditions or behaviors and defective equipment
  • Adjust, repair and service machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions
  • Drive trucks or other vehicles to or at work sites, with or without trailers to haul supplies and tools
  • Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery
  • Safely use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes
  • Perform preventative, routine maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Adjust, repair and service machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions
  • Clean or service machinery to ensure operating efficiency
  • Comply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations while operating a vehicle
  • Adhere to safety procedures including conforming to all OSHA standards and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Confer with supervisors to make operational decisions
  • Participate in company meetings, trainings and state licensure programs
  • Prioritize building strong relationships by effectively communicating with our customers, their needs, and expectations, to delivering exceptional customer service and a positive experience
  • Perform other duties as assigned
