Dallas County is seeking a Systems Engineer to provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain compute and storage environments and related infrastructure. The role includes hardware and software management, DR planning, and coordination with vendors on deployments.

Education and experience equivalent to an Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, or in a job-related field of study. Four (4) years of experience in Systems Engineering which involved the maintenance of compute and storage systems.
Knowledge of Data Center operations, software-defined Data Center theory; software-defined storage theory; disaster recovery and data protection operations; information security as it pertains to compute and storage environments; cloud technologies, storage area networks and fiber channel/ISCSI; Dallas County Department of Information Technology policies and procedures; project management and research techniques; the concepts, practices and procedures of other information technology fields and their interaction with Data Center functions. Ability to perform market research and product evaluation testing; troubleshoot and resolve problems in a compute and storage environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships; understand written and verbal instructions; work independently; and communicate clearly, orally and in writing with varying technological understanding.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article Il, Subdivision Il of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code.
Individuals holding or considered for a position which has, or may have, access to criminal justice databases including the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems, NCIC/TCIC and similar databases, must pass a national fingerprint-based records check prior to placement in such position and may be denied placement in such positions and/or access to such systems. Incumbents must also maintain the ability to pass the records check while in the position or until such time that the Commissioners Court and the County Civil Service Commission deem this position no longer has this requirement.
On call 24/7 technical support may be required. Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift files, boxes, and other materials up to 20 lbs., unassisted.
