Job summary

Old Cleeve Church of England First School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils with their learning and wellbeing. You will work alongside the class teacher to deliver phonics, reading, writing and maths interventions, and assist with classroom activities, ensuring every pupil can access the curriculum.

The role requires empathy, patience and the ability to manage emotions using trauma-informed and restorative approaches. Working hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm, term time with inset days.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety, wellbeing and access to learning.
  • Work alongside class teachers to support high-quality teaching and learning across the curriculum.
  • Deliver phonics teaching and provide targeted interventions in reading, writing and maths.
  • Support classroom activities, adapting approaches to meet individual needs and maximise engagement.
  • Attend to pupils' personal, social, emotional, health and welfare needs, including first aid where appropriate.
  • Provide nurturing pastoral support to develop confidence, resilience and social skills.
  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to help pupils overcome barriers and manage emotions.
  • Promote positive behaviour and inclusion to ensure every child feels safe and valued.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils as a consistent role model.
  • Develop individualized strategies to remove barriers to learning.
  • Support individual pupils to achieve learning, pastoral and developmental goals.
  • Contribute to EHCP provision and to delivery of agreed targets.
  • Assist with ADPR targets and bespoke support plans, ensuring provision is delivered consistently.

Using trauma-informed and restorative approaches, support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, manage emotions effectively and engage successfully in school life. Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and inclusion, ensuring every child feels safe, valued and able to thrive within our school family.Targeted Inclusion and Bespoke Support:Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and encouraging role model.
