Job summary

Independent School District No. 622, North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale, seeks a 1:1 Special Ed Paraeducator to support students in a 30-hour weekly schedule starting Fall 2026.

The role requires meeting the listed qualifications and duties including assisting instruction, implementing plans, preparing materials, and ensuring student safety and progress.

Benefits align with the labor agreement; wage is $24.54 per hour.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED and one of the following: an AA/AS/AAS (or higher) degree, or two years of post-secondary coursework (60 credits or 90 quarters) towards a bachelor's, or a passing score on ParaEducator test.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and restrain students in emergency situations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Completion of any required training necessary for the position.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the instruction of students by providing support and practical training in various subjects
• Assist the teacher by implementing instructional plans and adapting/modifying curriculum as directed
• Prepare class schedules and organize learning materials
• Assist with classroom activities
• Support education staff to meet students' needs including redirecting behaviors and assisting with feeding, movement, toileting, and supervision
• Monitor and document student progress and record data for IEPs
• Maintain confidentiality of students and the educational setting
• Other related duties as assigned

Position: 1:1 Special Ed Paraeducator
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 30 hours per week, student contact days
Start Date: Fall 2026
Pay: $24.54 per hour

Required Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
  • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
  • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelors degree, or

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent (preferably in Education)
• Education assistant/paraprofessional or teaching experience
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Experience and/or training in behavior management

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the instruction of students by providing support and practical training to students in various subject matters
• Provide assistance to the teacher by performing such duties as:
  • Implementing instructional plans and assisting with the adaptation/modification of the curriculum as directed by the teacher
  • Preparing class schedules
  • Organizing learning materials
  • Assisting with classroom activities
• Assist educational staff in performing duties to meet the specific needs of students including, but not limited to:
  • Redirecting inappropriate behaviors of students in classrooms
  • Preparing food for and/or feeding students
  • Assisting in the physical movement of students
  • Diapering and toileting students
  • Escorting students to vocational training jobs
  • Chaperoning student community outings
  • Supervising students during bus loading and unloading
• Promote a safe and productive learning environment for students, ensuring that student needs are met by communicating with other staff about student needs
• Monitor and document the educational progress of students by performing evaluations of student progress and needs
• Record data pertaining to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting at all times
• Other related duties as assigned

May be regularly required to walk throughout a building and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds, and must be able to restrain students with proper training and assistance when needed, and may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
