Job summary

Hawthorn School District 73 seeks a dedicated 1:1 Instructional Assistant for the Middle School North site to support teachers and students. You will assist in achieving learning objectives, reinforce skills, and help manage a safe, productive classroom.

The role requires effective communication with children and parents, adherence to confidential information, and participation in staff training. Opportunities include working closely with teaching staff to provide targeted instructional support.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional License (Short-Term License) or higher from the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Experience with students in a learning center preferred.
• Illinois elementary teaching certificate preferred; ability to speak a foreign language.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher(s) in achieving teaching and learning objectives with individual students or small groups.
• Assists in reinforcing skills based on understanding individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce skills or content initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists with management and supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
• Communicates with and alerts the teacher to any problems or special information related to the students.
• Maintains confidentiality of information about students as expected of teachers.
• Participates in training programs and training assignments as needed.
• Assists with supervision of students and other duties as assigned by the Principal.
