Job Summary:

The Skills Trainer Coordinator provides support to the Adult Day Vocational Program (ADVP) Director. Responsible for monitoring the safety and well-being of program participants and assisting in the development and delivery of health and wellness, social/recreational activities, community activities, volunteer opportunities, and independence skills programming. The role may include personal care support, work production support, respite relief, and other duties to ensure a quality rehabilitation program onsite, at participants' homes, or in the community. Reports directly to the ADVP Director.

Primary Duties

Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. These duties will be evaluated during the Annual Performance Review.

  1. Provide daily health, wellness, social, recreational, community, volunteer, and independence skills activities, ensuring participants' needs are met while following program guidelines.
  2. Assist with rehabilitative program implementation, aligning with participant support plans.
  3. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and documentation standards, including progress notes and incident reports.
  4. Monitor meal, break, work, and recreation areas for safety and participant whereabouts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist participants with meals, personal care, and community integration.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and report incidents immediately.
  • Complete incident reports within 24 hours and maintain compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Support program functions such as training, activities, and group trips.
  • Monitor transportation boarding and exiting.
  • Implement and monitor program goals, suggesting ideas for enrichment and social adjustment.

Participate in various service capacities, including supported employment and community supports. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
  • High school diploma or GED plus at least 1 year of related experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Experience in direct programming preferred.
  • Valid North Carolina driver license and reliable transportation required; good MVR required.
  • Must pass NC Healthcare Personnel Registry check.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with participants, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting safety and operational documents.
  • Computer skills, including Windows and Microsoft Office, preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to relate to people at all organizational levels and solve practical problems.
Physical Demands

Must regularly sit, use hands, reach, and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.

Work Environment

Generally quiet, with physical demands as described. The work involves regular physical activity and safety considerations.
