Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Grocery Department Manager to lead daily store operations, optimize merchandising, and drive sales while maintaining strong customer service. You will coach and develop associates, manage inventory and backroom processes, and ensure high food-safety standards.

The role requires a hands-on leader who can coordinate scheduling, training, and performance management in a fast-paced retail environment. Evening/weekend availability is expected.

• Execute planograms, promotional sets, seasonal transitions, and weekly ad merchandising.
• Manage ordering, inventory levels, product rotation, and backroom organization.
• Monitor shrink and implement procedures to reduce waste and loss.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, safety, and operational standards.
• Hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop grocery associates while fostering a positive team environment.

Union and Non-Union

“The pay range is $21.06 to $31.50 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).”
