Job summary

Dallas County is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy construction equipment. Work may occur in a shop or field environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 3 years of related experience or 45 college hours (or related certificate), and a valid Texas Class A CDL with hazmat endorsement. Must provide own hand tools and pass drug testing.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program.
• Three (3) years of work related experience or 45 hours of college in a related field or a combination of the two, or must possess a certificate in a related technical field.
• Must possess a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License, to include hazardous material endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Performs mechanical work involving the repair, maintenance and overhaul of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Operates vehicles and construction equipment.
• Maintains records of repair work completed, parts replaced, and routine maintenance performed and ensures work area is clean, safe, and orderly.

Education, Experience and Training:

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must possess a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License, to include hazardous material endorsement. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. Knowledge of welding required. Must provide own hand tools.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

Maintenance shop or road construction environment. Requires prolonged standing, bending, twisting, climbing and the ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., assisted. Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e., heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside. Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely
