Job summary

Tesco Sourcing is hiring a Technologist, Garment & Production in Istanbul to oversee technical approval and production processes across garment suppliers and factories. You’ll ensure safe, compliant, high-quality products while supporting supplier growth across EMEA regions, with regular factory visits and close collaboration with UK teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience in garment technology, quality assurance or technical product management within the apparel industry.
  • Strong understanding of garment fit, construction, manufacturing processes and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of product testing, inspection processes, product risk assessment and product safety and legal requirements.
  • Experience working directly with factories and suppliers, including supplier management and factory performance monitoring.
  • Understanding of factory technical compliance requirements, production processes, capacity planning and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Experience in identifying technical, quality and production risks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willing to travel regularly to supplier and factory locations.
  • Good written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Managing technical activities from product development through bulk production to ensure products consistently meet Tesco quality, safety and legal requirements.
  • Approve products through Fit, Red Seal and Green Seal stages and conduct product risk assessments.
  • Support garment fit, construction, performance and quality approvals, maintaining technical standards and specifications with UK Technical teams.
  • Partner with suppliers and factories to improve technical capability, product quality and operational performance.
  • Conduct factory technical evaluations, onboarding and capability-building activities.
  • Monitor production capacity, traceability and compliance with Tesco standards.
  • Lead pre-production meetings and factory visits to ensure production readiness.
  • Monitor bulk production, inspections and factory audit performance to ensure quality and compliance requirements are met.
  • Identify, mitigate and escalation technical, production and compliance risks as needed.
  • Collaborate with Sourcing, Buying, Compliance and supplier teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide technical expertise to support product and sourcing decisions.
  • Drive supplier performance, continuous improvement initiatives and technical excellence across the sourcing network.

Job description

Tesco Sourcing has been responsible for sourcing Tesco’s non-food products from across the world since 1977. We work with suppliers and partners globally to deliver great quality, great value fashion and home products for our customers.

Our headquarters are in Hong Kong, with sourcing hubs in China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Türkiye. We also have colleagues based in the UK, Central Europe, Vietnam, Cambodia and Pakistan.

We are now recruiting for a Technologist, Garment & Production based in Istanbul.

Please note, to support employment in this location, colleagues in this role are employed through our local Employer of Record (EOR) partner. Day-to-day, you will work as a fully integrated member of the Tesco Sourcing team, with local employment, payroll and statutory benefits administered through the EOR provider

About the role

This role is responsible for managing the technical approval and production process across assigned garment suppliers and factories, helping Tesco Sourcing deliver safe, compliant and high-quality products to customers while supporting sustainable supplier growth. As part of an ambitious expansion across EMEA, including exciting growth in Morocco & Egypt, you will play a key role in shaping and strengthening our supplier partnerships—supporting their development. Successful candidate will have opportunities to gain broad exposure to product development, production management and strategic supplier engagement activities within a dynamic and growing sourcing network.

The role does not have direct people management responsibility but requires strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills to drive technical standards and operational excellence. Regular factory visits and close engagement with manufacturing partners form an important part of the role.

The team you’ll work with

This role reports to the Technical Manager – Garment & Production, based in Türkiye. Apart from the Türkiye Technical team, you will collaborate closely with Sourcing team, UK Technical teams, responsible sourcing teams, suppliers and compliance partners across EMEA regions including but not limited to Türkiye, Morrocco and Egypt.

You will be responsible for
Technical Quality & Product Approval:
  • Managing technical activities from product development through bulk production to ensure products consistently meet Tesco quality, safety and legal requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Knowledge of garment manufacturing machinery, production tools and process improvement techniques.
