AppNation seeks a Senior Android Developer to build and scale world-class mobile experiences across AI-powered apps. You’ll own native Android work from architecture decisions to production releases, tackling performance and reliability challenges in a fast-moving team.

You’ll collaborate with designers, data scientists, and Flutter developers to deliver high-quality Android experiences while shaping technical standards and best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Android development with production apps.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Android Developer to help us build and scale world-class mobile experiences.

You’ll work across our portfolio of AI-powered and consumer mobile apps, taking ownership from architecture decisions to production releases. You’ll solve challenging engineering problems, improve app performance, and help shape the technical standards of our mobile team.

What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain scalable, high-quality Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
• Take ownership of the native Android layer in our Flutter apps, including architecture, integrations and platform-specific capabilities
• Build and ship Android-native features in our apps, such as home screen widgets with Glance, Live Updates and rich notifications, push notifications with FCM, Credential Manager and Sign in with Google, Google Play Billing and modern Material 3 experiences
• Bring AI capabilities to the native side where they make sense, using technologies such as ML Kit, on-device models with LiteRT, Gemini Nano through AICore, and Android speech and camera APIs
• Design and evolve maintainable Android architectures, reusable components and clear boundaries between native and Flutter layers
• Debug and resolve Android-specific production issues such as crashes, ANRs, memory leaks, performance regressions, networking problems and Flutter engine behavior on Android
• Profile and optimize app startup time, memory usage, rendering performance, battery usage and responsiveness using Android Studio Profiler and production monitoring tools
• Ensure our apps run reliably across the Android device ecosystem, including different OEMs, OS versions, screen sizes, tablets and foldables
• Improve engineering practices around testing, code review, CI/CD, release processes and mobile observability
• Act as the team's Android mentor by reviewing native code, writing internal guidelines, running knowledge-sharing sessions and helping our Flutter developers become confident on Android
• Keep a close eye on Android platform updates and Google Play requirements, such as target SDK deadlines and platform policy changes, and turn relevant developments into concrete technical and product proposals

What We’re Looking For

• At least 5 years of professional Android development experience, including apps you have shipped and maintained in production on Google Play.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and hands-on production experience with Jetpack Compose
• Strong knowledge of Android application architecture, application and process lifecycle, modular design and platform APIs.
• Strong knowledge of the Android platform beyond the main app, including app widgets, services, WorkManager, push notifications, Google Play Billing, permissions and background execution.
• A solid understanding of Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, structured concurrency and thread safety.
• Strong understanding of Android memory management, lifecycle-related leaks and performance profiling.
• Comfortable using Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto and production diagnostics to identify and resolve performance, memory and ANR issues.
• Hands-on experience with Gradle configuration, dependency management, app signing, CI/CD and the full Google Play release process.
• Experience connecting native Android code with a cross-platform framework, or a strong willingness to learn Flutter.
• Familiarity with iOS and Swift is a plus.
• Experience working with Java or legacy Android codebases is a plus.
• Experience with Wear OS, Android TV or other Android form factors is a plus.
• Experience with Firebase, crash reporting, analytics, Play Integrity or mobile observability tools is a plus.
• Working proficiency in English.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
