The Phenix is looking for a Gameplay Animator to join our development team and help bring our characters, combat and gameplay interactions to life.
We are looking for an animator who understands that strong gameplay animation is not only about visual quality, but also responsiveness, readability, weight and how movement feels in the hands of the player.
You will work closely with programmers, artists and other disciplines to create, implement and iterate on gameplay animations throughout production. The Phenix represents a great opportunity for individuals passionate about showcasing their talents in the international gaming industry through our globally developed "Breakout AA" title.
What We Are Looking For
- Professional experience as a 3D Animator, Gameplay Animator or similar role within the games industry, supported by a strong portfolio of production quality work.
- Advanced animation skills in Maya, Blender or 3ds Max, with strong fundamentals in body mechanics, weight, balance, timing, momentum and readability.
- Ability to create a broad range of gameplay animations including locomotion, combat, traversal, interactions and hit reactions across different in game actors.
- Particular strength in melee combat animation, with the ability to communicate weight, momentum, timing and impact through movement.
- Strong keyframe animation skills, with the ability to adapt animations to gameplay requirements and iterate effectively based on feedback.
- Solid Motion Capture workflow including cleaning, editing and retargeting mocap data into gameplay ready animation.
- Working knowledge of rigging and skinning, including skeleton setup and adjustment, weight painting and IK/FK workflows.
- Comfortable working directly with Unreal Engine 5 animation systems including Animation Blueprint, State Machine, Blend Space, Animation Montage, Motion Matching and Motion Warping.
- Ability to identify and resolve in engine animation issues such as blending, transitions, foot sliding and clipping.
- Strong understanding of how animation supports gameplay, characters, weapons and other game systems, with the ability to adjust animation based on gameplay requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with programmers and artists using source control and shared production pipelines.
