Job summary

World Food Programme in Turkey seeks a Finance Associate to provide finance, budget and administration support, ensuring compliance with policies and robust financial controls. The role involves supporting policy development, cash management, and timely processing of payments and invoices.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a finance-related field with at least 6 years of experience, English and Turkish fluency, and familiarity with audits and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field with minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional finance certification is desired.
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Turkish.
  • Experience assessing financial health and stability of C&V projects and other programming initiatives to verify compliance with in-country local laws is desired.
  • Experience working with auditors and other third party vendors is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide procedural and technical support to staff within finance and budget areas to ensure compliance with WFP financial policies, rules and regulations.
  • Support development and implementation of financial policies and procedures, and assist in setup and implementation of proper accounting procedures, systems and cash controls.
  • Monitor daily cash position to optimize use of surplus cash and maximize returns on investment through liquidity portfolio.
  • Monitor centralized registry system to process payments to internal staff and invoices to external suppliers timely and in accordance with WFP standards.
  • Contribute to preparation, implementation and monitoring of budgets, monitor expenditure and budget forecasts to ensure relevant future funding requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with other teams to ensure all financial and administrative services are performed efficiently and meet wider team needs.
  • Monitor account balances and process financial transactions accurately and timely to avoid overdrafts.
  • Monitor and analyse general ledger accounts to initiate and achieve corrective actions.
  • Compile data from WFP database and systems to assist in generating and analysing monthly financial reports.
  • Allocate tasks to other support staff, provide guidance and on-the-job training in management of financial resources to ensure consistent service delivery to required standards.
  • Remain on stand-by and follow standard emergency preparedness practices to meet immediate emergency requirements for further service on the job and in the field.
