Kalyon İnşaat is expanding its Corporate Environment and Sustainability Department and is recruiting an experienced Environmental Executive to take an active role in the environmental management, international financing and sustainability processes of its large-scale infrastructure and construction projects. Although based at the corporate office, the position requires frequent travel and active involvement at project sites. The Environmental Executive will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle—from initiating environmental processes and establishing the required systems and teams for new projects to monitoring environmental performance during the financing, construction and operational phases.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the environmental start-up activities of new projects and ensure the establishment of the required management systems, plans, monitoring mechanisms and site practices,
- Participate in pre-financing environmental due diligence and assessment processes and contribute to identifying environmental risks, compliance gaps and required actions,
- Play an active role in the preparation, review, update and implementation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs),
- Prepare or coordinate the preparation of project-specific environmental management plans and sub-plans; monitor their implementation and update them in line with changing project conditions,
- Monitor environmental commitments arising from national EIAs, ESIAs, ESAPs, financing agreements, environmental permits and management plans,
- Assess lenders’ environmental requirements, communicate them to project teams and support their integration into project activities,
- Coordinate the review, monitoring and audit processes conducted by lenders and Independent Environmental and Social Consultants; participate in meetings and site visits and coordinate the preparation of requested information and documentation,
- Monitor project compliance with Turkish environmental legislation, permit and licence conditions, contractual obligations and applicable international standards,
- Conduct environmental site inspections and follow up on the timely closure of corrective and preventive actions arising from identified risks, findings and non-compliances,
- Support the establishment of project environmental teams, facilitate the handover of responsibilities and transfer of knowledge, and continue monitoring environmental performance on behalf of the corporate team until project completion,
- Monitor environmental data and performance indicators and prepare the required inputs for management, clients, lenders and corporate sustainability reporting,
- Research developments in climate change, carbon management, resource efficiency, circular economy, nature-positive practices and digital environmental performance monitoring, and develop recommendations at corporate and project levels,
- Contribute to the transfer of lessons learned and good practices across the company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering,
- Preferably at least seven years of environmental management experience in large-scale infrastructure, transportation, energy or construction projects,
- Experience in undertaking environmental responsibilities on projects financed by international financial institutions,
- Experience in ESIAs, ESAPs, environmental management plans, lender monitoring processes and Independent Environmental and Social Consultant audits,
- Knowledge of the IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements, World Bank Group Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines and, preferably, the Equator Principles,
- Strong knowledge of Turkish environmental legislation and environmental permitting and licensing processes,
- Preferably experienced in sustainability reporting and the development, collection and verification of environmental performance data and indicators,
- Strong communication, planning, follow-up and reporting skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project and corporate teams,
- Good command of written and spoken English to participate in meetings with lenders and international consultants and follow technical documentation,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications,
- Active driving licence holder with no restrictions on frequent domestic and international travel
