Job summary

Alibaba Cloud is seeking an experienced Data Center Operations Lead to manage regional collocation facilities. You will supervise a team, coordinate with vendors, and drive Change Management programs for normal and emergency operations.

The role requires 5+ years in large-scale data center operations, deep mechanical/electrical/fire system knowledge, and willingness to travel internationally. English fluency is required; Turkish/Mandarin is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of global large data center facility operation (10+MW) as a team leader.
• Deep knowledge of data center mechanical, electrical, fire systems and controls.
• Functional knowledge of cloud technologies and IT service delivery.
• Highly driven, self-managed with strong problem analysis.
• Knowledge of data center construction procedures.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally (25%–50%+).
• English proficiency required; Turkish or Mandarin Chinese is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define data center operations with stakeholders and develop Change Management procedures, SOPs and EOPs for regional collocation DC facilities.
• Lead teams and consultants to implement data center operations in normal and emergency situations.
• Ensure vendors adhere to SLAs per contractual terms for collocation DCs.
• Provide construction administrative support to the project manager through schematic design to commissioning.
• Analyze energy efficient solutions to minimize power losses.
• Develop and review change management scripts (CMRs) for on-site activities.
• Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, energy audits, startup testing and commissioning.
• Provide electrical mission critical system review services to global teams and perform RCA for outages.
• Direct vendors and installation contractors and ensure quality of works on site.
• Respond to emergencies in Alibaba DCs with on-site support as needed.

• Technical leader managing the collocation DCs to ensure vendors are adhering to the SLAs per contractual terms.
• Provide construction administrative support to the project manager during construction. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to assist with new DC projects through schematic design, design development, to construction documents, and commissioning phases.
• Provide and analyze energy efficient solutions to minimize power losses.
• Review and develop detailed scripts for change management request (CMR) activities.
• Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
• Provide electrical mission critical system review services to the global datacenter engineering teams.
• Participate in equipment failure or power outage related incident Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA).
• Provide instructions to vendors, installation contractors and validate quality of vendor works on site.
• Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies in regional Alibaba DCs, including traveling to site and to provide on-site support.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an Electrical or Mechanical engineering
• 5+ years experience of global large data center facility operation (10+MW) as team leader
• Deep knowledge of Data Center mechanical, electrical, fire system and controls systems
• Functional knowledge of cloud technologies and architectures, IT service delivery principles and best practices
• Highly driven, self-managed individual, greatly developed problem analysis and critical thinking experience
• Knowledge of data center construction procedure
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (25% to 50%+ at times)
• English proficiency is required; knowledge of Turkish or Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
