Job summary

Singapore Food Agency’s Marine Aquaculture Centre on St. John’s Island, Singapore seeks a veterinarian to lead fish health initiatives, refine husbandry practices and implement health protocols to improve overall fish well-being at MAC.

The role involves overseeing biosecurity, improving disease diagnostics, collaborating with industry and academia, and providing technical advice to support the sector; weekend and after-hours work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Veterinary degree with aquatic animal health specialization preferred.
  • Experience in aquaculture is desirable.
  • Familiarity with animal care guidelines per NACLAR.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Able to collaborate across teams to complete projects.
  • Willing to work weekends and after hours when required.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and oversee procedures on fish health and biosecurity at MAC.
  • Improve disease diagnostic capability and coordinate sample analysis.
  • Review processes to enhance biosecurity and fish health management.
  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders and researchers on fish health R&D.
  • Provide technical advice on fish health management.
  • Perform other duties to support MAC operations.

Job description

Successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team to implement fish health protocols at the Marine Aquaculture Centre (MAC) and refine culture techniques and animal husbandry practices to improve overall fish health management.

Duties
  • Implement and oversee compliance of existing procedures and protocols regarding fish health and biosecurity at MAC e.g. monitoring, reporting and corrective actions (if necessary).
  • Improve fish disease diagnostic capability at MAC. This includes the conduct of fish or water sampling and engaging relevant laboratories/ companies for the analysis of samples.
  • Review requirements and processes to improve MAC’s biosecurity and fish health management
  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders and academic researchers on fish health R&D
  • Provide technical advice and service to SFA with regards to fish health management for the industry
  • Perform other related duties as required for the smooth operation of the MAC
Requirements
  • Veterinary degree, preferably with specialisation in aquatic animal health
  • Preferably with relevant work experience in aquaculture
  • Familiar with the Guidelines on the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes set forth by the National Advisory Committee for Laboratory Animal Research (NACLAR)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to collaborate across different teams to complete fish health management projects or actions
  • Prepared to work on weekends and after office hours when necessary.
