Job summary

GovTech Singapore is seeking a UX Designer to join the Government Digital Products (GDP) Team in Singapore. You will collaborate with technologists, product managers and agencies to inform design decisions, and work in an Agile context to deliver user-centered digital experiences for government e-services.

You will sit with the GDP team, helping to shape product strategy, gather requirements, prototype and ship features, with a focus on improving citizen experience and government efficiency.

What you will be working on

The Government Digital Products (GDP) Team aims to spearhead the digital transformation of government. We are a team of technologists in GovTech that aims to design and develop software applications that help government agencies better serve the needs of Singaporeans. We adopt an Agile development approach and work towards adopting tech best practices and cutting edge tools. Our team in GDP aims to improve lives by empowering change with the right technologies and better user experience.

How we work

Job overview

We have built a scrum team of technologists who have developed digital products to improve citizen's experience of using the agency's e-services.

As a UX designer, you will work with our scrum team and other government agencies to inform product and design decisions. You will get to influence the digital experience of the agency’s e-services. This will involve having good interpersonal skills, sharp analytical mind, and astute design judgement. You will work closely with our designers, engineers, business analysts and product managers to continuously deliver features for transforming citizen experience and improving agency efficiency.

You will sit with the project scrum team, as a member of the UX team in GDP. The office will be located at the Punggol Digital District (PDD).

What to expect

Within your first month...

You have understood the overall product strategy, did a stock take on the UX status of the project, and contributed design screens for concurrent active sprints.

By the end of 3 months...

You should have run an inception, gathered requirements, co‑create with stakeholders and scrum team, tested, prototyped, and shipped at least one new feature to the product backlog.

After 6 months...

You will have led research efforts to identify at least one opportunity for the product to grow or proposed enhancements for the existing tracks, in collaboration with designers, engineers, and product managers.

Beyond that...

You will continue to solve problems such as creating a seamless experience for citizens across e‑services, helping citizens complete the service with ease, resolving agency pain points and improving ops efficiency, using data to improve government services, and designing for reusability across products.

Product and user‑centric mindset

• A desire to serve the public through the use of technology
• You need to be able to grasp the use case and come up with task flows in a short span of time
• You are able to drive product solutions that service the goals of both the users and stakeholders
• You are collaborative and understand that co‑creating a product with the team and stakeholders will have a higher chance of it being the best product
• You find the quickest route to design, test, and ship a design prototype to 'prove' a concept. Be agile and lean
• You are data‑driven yourself, with experience in user research, to use data to justify design decisions
• You yearn to analyse user feedback and activity, and iterating the design to enhance user experience

Technologist at work

• You are able to translate user research into design recommendations and findings
• You are able to tackle complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible, and easy‑to‑use designs
• You are meticulous and possess good problem solving skills
• Frontend development knowledge is a bonus

Strategist at heart

• Strategists hardly work alone. You have to work well with your scrum team and agencies to strategise the product direction together.
• Good organisational, presentation and listening skills
• Be flexible, be a team player, solve problems, and contribute to the UX and product team’s success.

Preferred (Additional Requirements)

• At least 4–5 years of professional experience in product design, working on end‑to‑end delivery. That would include experience in facilitating workshops, gathering requirements, usability testing, envisioning flows, and delivering hi‑fidelity mockups.
• Experience in Agile and UX development environment will be an added advantage
• Previous experience leading a team in UX design will be an added advantage. You may be considered for a senior position if applicable.
