Job summary

Nivabiz is seeking an experienced Unix Engineer to manage Unix and Linux systems within a 24x7 enterprise environment in Singapore. The role involves system administration, troubleshooting, packaging, and ensuring service levels and business continuity.

The candidate will support Unix-based IT infrastructure, deploy fixes, manage multiple platforms (Unix, Linux, Solaris, Red Hat, AIX, SUSE), handle change requests, and coordinate with vendors to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science.
• 3+ years of Unix/Linux/Solaris/AIX/RHEL/SUSE administration in an enterprise environment.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.
• Scripting experience with Perl, Ruby, and AWK.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Unix/Linux/Solaris/AIX/SUSE systems to meet business requirements and SLAs.
• Troubleshoot server and application issues and identify root causes.
• Deploy Unix/Linux packages and fixes across test, pre-prod, and production environments.
• Follow change-management processes and provide status reports to stakeholders.
• Provide L1/L2 operational support and coordinate with third-party vendors.
• Participate in audits and respond to audit findings.

JOB SUMMARY

NivaBiz is seeking an experienced Unix Engineer responsible for Unix and Linux systems administration within a 24x7 enterprise environment.

The successful candidate will support Unix-based IT infrastructure, perform system administration, troubleshoot server and application issues, deploy system packages and fixes, and ensure that service levels and business-continuity requirements are met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support IT infrastructure operating on Unix platforms.
• Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting server and application issues and identifying their root causes.
• Deploy Unix/Linux packages and bug fixes across testing, pre-production, and production environments.
• Manage the daily operational administration of Unix, Linux, Solaris, Red Hat, AIX, and SUSE systems according to business requirements and service levels.
• Follow established change-management requirements for all change requests.
• Manage operational changes through the change-request process and provide status reports to relevant stakeholders.
• Provide Level 1 and Level 2 operational support for Unix, Linux, Solaris, Red Hat, AIX, and SUSE systems.
• Perform Level 1 troubleshooting for third-party applications used to support the infrastructure.
• Coordinate and follow up with third-party vendors until technical issues are resolved.
• Participate in audit activities and respond to audit findings.
• Respond promptly to system incidents, security alerts, and technical investigations.
• Deliver temporary or permanent resolutions for escalated incidents.
• Provide timely status updates and incident reports to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure service levels meet the required standards.
• Propose and implement corrective action plans when required.
• Implement service-continuity measures, including system backup and restoration procedures and disaster-recovery plans.
• Support other Unix and Linux administration activities.
• Perform certain activities outside regular working hours when required, including system patching.
• Ensure that all technical and operational documentation is properly maintained and updated.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
• Travel occasionally to other offices within Singapore, depending on operational requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or an equivalent discipline.
• At least three years of relevant working experience in Unix, Linux, Solaris, Red Hat, AIX, or SUSE administration within an enterprise environment.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Red Hat Clustering and Oracle Solaris Clustering.
• Strong knowledge and experience with scripting tools or languages such as Perl, Ruby, and AWK.
• Relevant knowledge and experience with SolarWinds.
• Knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy will be advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a 24x7 enterprise operational environment.
• Ability to coordinate with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors.

WORKING HOURS

• Standard working hours are generally from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
• Working hours may vary due to the 24x7 operational environment.
• After-hours support may be required for activities such as patching, system maintenance, and incident resolution.
