Job summary

UNITED OVERSEAS INSURANCE LIMITED is seeking an Underwriter in the Commercial Distribution Division in Singapore. The role focuses on servicing and growing commercial accounts, underlining high-quality client service and adherence to underwriting guidelines.

You will support revenue growth, handle renewals, prepare summaries and documents, and mentor junior staff. Mandarin language skills are preferred to service Mandarin-speaking clients.

Qualifications

Job description

The Commercial Distribution Division is responsible for the growth of commercial businesses across multiple channels including Bancassurance, Intermediaries, Direct channels and Partnerships.

It is also responsible for providing holistic, bespoke insurance solutions for its commercial customers, delivering service excellence and increasing market awareness of UOI to achieve customers’ trust and recognition.

Job Purpose

As an underwriter in the Commercial Distribution Division, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to support revenue growth and to achieve customer satisfaction. This includes servicing support to grow new customers, to retain existing customers and to drive transformation process in line with the Company’s objectives.

Main responsibilities

• Assist Department Head to achieve gross underwriting premium and profit set by the Company.
• Grow and underwrite risks for commercial classes in line with Company’s underwriting guidelines and treaty programme.
• Place facultative reinsurance and ensure contract certainty documentation is fulfilled.
• Prepare insurance summaries, renewal invite and actively pursue renewable business to achieve high persistency targets.
• Service commercial clients and attend to their enquiries promptly to ensure customers satisfaction.
• Ensure premiums are collected within premium warranty framework.
• Perform additional support duties, such as presentation to clients, claims and underwriting analytics, issuance of cover notes, certificates of insurance, instructions for issuance of policies and preparation of monthly business reports.
• Guiding and mentoring junior underwriters, as appropriate.
• Undertake any other assignments as allocated by the Division Head and the CEO to contribute to the overall corporate objectives.

Requirements

• Minimally Degree in any discipline
• Possess Certificate in General Insurance

• Knowledge of Mandarin is preferred so as to service mandarin-speaking clients
