Therapy Assistant
Job Description:
Overall Job Purpose
1. Is responsible for the delivery of all therapeutic activities in the Physiotherapy services, under the guidance of the Physiotherapist, in accordance to the requisite standards, protocols and regulations
2. Is responsible for general duties within the Department including:
- Housekeeping e.g.managing inventory, laundry and linen, stationary items, mobility aids
- Cleaning and organising equipment, materials and resources of the department
- Documenting residents’ physiotherapy attendances
- Participating in departmental meetings
- Participating in departmental project work
(A) Delivery Of Therapeutic Activities
With specific instructions from the Physiotherapists, carry out all physical therapy activities for residents and/or clients independently, in partnership with other Therapy Assistant staff and/or with the Physiotherapists, individually or in groups, including:
- receiving instructions either verbal or written from the Physiotherapists
- carrying out all instructions correctly i.e. performing the correct techniques and/or applications for residents and/or clients before, during and after therapeutic activities as required
- carrying out all instructions efficiently i.e. managing and organising schedule for attending to residents and/or clients to meet key performance indicators
- observing residents and/or clients before, during and after therapeutic activities as required
- reporting observations as required, back to Physiotherapists, to allow them to modify future sessions if needed
- using mobility aids correctly and instructing residents and/or clients to use mobility aids correctly
- performing manual transfers correctly when required
- using hoists and electronic transfer systems correctly and safely
(B) General
1. Housekeeping including:
- Keeping inventory for the Physiotherapists and updating this list annually in December of every year
- Maintaining an inventory check system to monitor usage, location and stock numbers within the inventory under the stewardship of each Physiotherapist
- Highlighting to Physiotherapists if equipment, materials and resources need to be discarded and updated or new ones need to be re-purchased or obtained
- In conjunction with Physiotherapists, discarding, updating, re-purchasing and obtaining new items following all procurement standard operation processes
- Maintaining a laundry and linen check system that ensures all Physiotherapists and staff of Allied Health Services Department have sufficient linen items to carry out therapy services daily
- Maintaining a stationary inventory and log system to monitor stationary use and needs for the department
- Maintaining sundries supply to support the needs of the department, including items e.g. hand soap, disinfectant wash, alcohol rubs, tissues, cleaning cloths etc
2. Cleaning including:
- Planning daily schedule of sanitising and cleaning of equipment, materials and resources
- Sanitising and cleaning equipment, materials and resources when needed following correct standard procedures for the different types
- Planning and executing an annual major cleaning of all therapy equipment, materials and resources as well as storage areas
3. Organising including:
- Ensuring all therapy equipment, materials and resources are stored in a correct and tidy manner within therapy storage areas
- Tagging and labelling equipment, materials and resources as appropriate
4. Documenting all physiotherapy, Gym Tonic and hydrotherapy pool activity attendances, in the correct manner, whether inwritten or electronic form, of all residents and/or clients.
5. Participating in departmental meetings when needed
6. Participating in departmental project work including:
- Attending project committee meetings
- Contributing ideas, comments and opinions to projects

2. Handles FM duties independently and responsibly.
3. Maintains good public relation with colleagues, patients and the public.
JOB REQUIREMENTS IN:
1. Minimum of GCEN Levels with a pass in English
