What the role is:
The National Research Foundation (NRF) is a department within the Prime Minister's Office. We set the national direction for Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) by developing policies, plans and strategies; funding strategic initiatives that strengthen our scientific and technological capabilities; and fostering RIE collaboration in Singapore and internationally.
What you will be working on:
As a Temp Officer, Communications, you will provide operational and administrative support to NRF’s Communications Directorate, across a range of communications activities. While a key focus will be on media relations, you will also pitch in on other communications-related work as needed, include coordinating communications workflows, maintaining media and digital assets, managing shared repositories, and supporting the team in delivering timely and accurate public communications on behalf of NRF.
Responsibilities include:
1. Media Relations Support
- Maintain and update the NRF media contact database, including journalists, editors, and media outlets across print, broadcast, and digital platforms;
- Assist in coordinating media accreditation and logistics for NRF events, press conferences, and official visits, including liaison with media representatives on-site;
- Support the preparation of media briefs and materials ahead of interviews, press conferences, and public engagements;
- Track and compile media enquiries and responses, and maintain a record of media interactions.
2. Ad-hoc On-site Event Support
- Provide on-site media support at NRF events, including registration, and coordination of media-related logistics and operations;
- Assist with media liaison duties on-site, providing coordination support for accredited media representatives and during media interviews/briefings/showcases;
- Support the preparation, printing, and distribution of press kits for media at events, including fact sheets, backgrounders, programme information, and multimedia materials;
- Maintain proper filing records and archiving of press kits, media materials, and event documentation after each event;
- Assist in post-event administrative follow-up, including compiling media attendance records and feedback where applicable.
3. Digital Repository and Photo Asset Management
- Manage and maintain NRF’s digital repositories, including SharePoint and Google Drive accounts, ensuring files are properly organised, named, and accessible to the relevant team members;
- Conduct regular housekeeping of shared drives and repositories, including archiving processes, and ensuring consistent folder structures and naming conventions;
- Manage the NRF photo repository, including indexing, tagging, and archiving images from events, official visits, and media engagements to ensure ease of retrieval;
- Coordinate with photographers and videographers to ensure timely delivery and proper filing of multimedia assets.
4. Quality Service Manager (QSM) Mailbox Management
- Monitor and manage the NRF Quality Service Manager (QSM) mailbox, ensuring all incoming feedback, enquiries, and complaints are acknowledged and routed to the appropriate officers in a timely manner;
- Maintain a tracking log of all QSM cases, including date received, nature of feedback, assigned officer, and resolution status;
- Follow up with the Comms team to ensure QSM cases are resolved within stipulated service standards and timelines.
5. Asset Stocktaking and Inventory Management
- Conduct regular stocktaking of the Communications Directorate’s physical assets, including event equipment, collateral, branded merchandise, and AV materials;
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory register, tracking asset condition, location, and usage, especially during and after events;
- Flag items requiring repair, replacement, or disposal, and assist in processing the necessary administrative actions.
6. Administrative and Operational Support
- Maintain the Communications Directorate’s filing systems, procurement records, and vendor documentation;
- Support the coordination of communications-related procurement, including vendor quotations, purchase orders, and invoice processing;
- Participate in ad hoc communications initiatives and cross-directorate projects as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- Background in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field is preferred;
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a communications, public relations, or media-related role will be advantageous;
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English;
- Experience with digital asset management, SharePoint, or Google Drive administration is an advantage;
- Experience in procurement is a plus;
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines;
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) was set up on 1 January 2006 as a department under the Prime Minister's Office. It was set up to perform the following:
- a) To provide secretariat support to the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC), chaired by the Senior Minister;
- b) To coordinate the research of different agencies within the larger national framework in order to provide a coherent strategic overview and direction;
- c) To develop policies and plans to implement the five strategic thrusts for the national R&D agenda;
- d) To implement national research, innovation and enterprise strategies approved by the RIEC, and to allocate funding to programmes that meet NRF's strategic objectives.
