Job summary

Direct Search Global is seeking a Technical Superintendent to manage the technical performance, maintenance and regulatory compliance of bunker tankers based in Singapore. You will work with vessel crews, class societies, shipyards and service providers to keep the fleet safe, reliable and operationally ready.

The ideal candidate has seagoing experience as Chief/Second Engineer, shore-based supervision of tanker fleets, and strong budgeting and troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

• Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (Class 1 or 2) is required or equivalent.
• Experience as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer in seagoing roles.
• Experience with bunker/ product/ chemical tankers preferred.
• 3–5 years shore-based Technical Superintendent experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of marine machinery, tanker systems and budgeting.
• Familiarity with MPA, ISM and MARPOL requirements.
• Proven cost-control and procurement capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage technical operation and maintenance of bunker tankers.
• Monitor vessel condition, machinery performance and maintenance planning.
• Provide guidance to Masters and shipboard staff on technical issues.
• Conduct regular inspections and rectify deficiencies promptly.
• Plan drydocks, major repairs and equipment upgrades.
• Oversee docking specs, quotations and shipyard supervision.
• Monitor budgets, repair expenditures and procurement costs.
• Review monthly financial performance and variances.
• Coordinate spare parts and service delivery with suppliers.
• Maintain relationships with shipyards, class societies and authorities.
• Ensure compliance with class, flag, IMO, MPA and company rules.
• Support class surveys, audits and regulatory examinations.
• Maintain records in Planned Maintenance System and investigate faults.
• Drive corrective actions to minimise downtime and incidents.
• Support ISM, MARPOL and emissions compliance.
• Collaborate with marine, operations, HSEQ, crewing and procurement teams.
• Monitor vessel performance, fuel use and off-hire trends.
• Travel with vessels and attend shipyards or service locations as needed.
