Job summary

Illumina seeks a System Integration Engineer to join the Microarray System Integration Team within Illumina Product Development. The role focuses on designing and executing experiment plans, analyzing results, and troubleshooting system issues to support end-to-end assay workflows.

You will work hands-on across hardware, software, reagents, and consumables, executing DVTs and DOE studies to optimize workflow performance, and presenting data clearly for cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Understanding of Microarray/Sequencing/Library Preparation technology and related biology.
• Wet-lab experience with solid lab skills.
• DOE planning and root-cause investigation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Description

Illumina develops the world’s leading next generation DNA sequencing (NGS) and microarray platforms. The System Integration Engineer will join the Microarray System Integration Team within Illumina Product Development and will be responsible for the design and execution of the experiment plan, analysis of experimental results, and troubleshooting of system issues to support end‑to‑end assay workflows.

Position Responsibilities

• Hands‑on testing and integration of the product system – hardware, software, chemistry/reagents, consumables and application components.
• Design and execute experiment protocols to optimize end‑to‑end workflow performance.
• Execution of the Design Verification Test (DVT) to verify product requirements.
• Execution of engineering studies for workflow optimization and testing.
• Use analytical tools (JMP, R, Python, etc.) to conduct data analysis and interpret experimental results regarding workflow/assay performance.
• Organize and present experimental data clearly and concisely.
• Contribute to the development of appropriate hardware, software or workflow configurations for the system or prototype to be used in V&V studies.
• Contribute to investigation and resolution of system/sub‑system level technical problems.
• Contribute to drafting development documentation (engineering study reports, workflow instructions, etc.).

Position Requirements

• Understanding of Microarray/Sequencing/Library Preparation technology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics.
• Wet‑lab experience in a molecular biology/biochemistry lab environment with sound laboratory skills.
• Hands‑on experience with planning and execution of DOE for workflow optimization, problem solving, and root‑cause investigation (preferred).
• Detail oriented, organized, and highly motivated.
• Proficiency in standard computer skills and statistical packages.
• Solid communication, presentation, and writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional project teams.
• Desire to be part of a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary, dynamic environment.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills

• 0–2 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related disciplines.
• Previous experience working with Illumina Sequencing/Microarray products.
• Experience using Python or other programming tools for large data set analysis.
• Experience working with liquid handling robots.
