Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking a Systems Engineer to support large-scale production infrastructure across data centre environments in Singapore. You will diagnose server hardware, perform break/fix activities, and use Linux tooling to troubleshoot across live production systems.

This role requires 2+ years in data centre or enterprise IT infrastructure, ability to coordinate with vendors and on-call teams, and strong documentation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in Data Centre / Server Operations or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-call rotation to support production incidents.

Job description

Do you want to work within one of the world's largest hyperscale technology environments? We are looking for a Systems Engineer to support large-scale production infrastructure operating across data centre and colocation environments.

This position will give you exposure to mission-critical infrastructure at significant scale, with a focus on server systems, Linux troubleshooting, hardware, physical connectivity and infrastructure operations supporting globally distributed platforms. You will work across live production environments, investigating infrastructure issues, coordinating technical activities and helping maintain the availability and reliability of critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve issues across server hardware, physical connectivity, optics, fibre and supporting infrastructure within live production environments.
• Carry out server break/fix activities and troubleshoot issues involving hardware, cabling, circuits and connectivity.
• Utilise Linux command-line tools for system diagnostics, connectivity testing, log investigation and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Perform Layer 1 troubleshooting across physical server and network infrastructure.
• Work with Smart Hands / Remote Hands teams and onsite technicians during incidents, maintenance activities and infrastructure implementations.
• Manage circuit MACDs, including infrastructure moves, additions, changes and disconnections.
• Liaise with ISPs, colocation facilities, vendors and internal technical teams to investigate and resolve production infrastructure issues.
• Manage infrastructure requests, operational tickets, inventory information and technical updates through JIRA and internal systems.
• Assist with server, circuit and spare equipment inventory management, including regular infrastructure audits.
• Carry out planned maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures, technical documentation and MOPs.
• Maintain clear and accurate operational documentation and provide implementation and activity reporting when required.
• Support highly available production infrastructure with a strong emphasis on uptime, operational standards and process adherence.
• Participate in an on-call rotation supporting infrastructure incidents and scheduled maintenance.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience within Data Centre Operations, Server Operations, Systems/Infrastructure Operations or Enterprise IT Infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting server hardware and physical infrastructure within production environments.
• Good understanding of fibre, optics, cabling, physical connectivity and hardware fault diagnosis.
• Working knowledge of Linux/Unix command-line troubleshooting.
• Experience using ticketing and operational management platforms such as JIRA or similar.
• Experience coordinating technical activities with vendors, field engineers, Smart Hands teams, colocation providers or ISPs.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and isolate faults across servers, hardware, connectivity and supporting infrastructure.
• Experience working from MOPs, runbooks, technical procedures and implementation documentation.
• Strong communication and coordination skills when working across internal technical teams and external parties.
• Ability to operate independently and effectively within fast-moving production environments.
