Job summary

Hitachi Rail Singapore is seeking a Senior System Design Engineer to lead CBTC projects and drive system design excellence. You will interface with customers and internal teams to ensure safe and efficient rail signalling solutions are delivered on time.

The role involves hands‑on work in our Singapore facility, collaboration with overseas teams, and participation in advanced CBTC development and data analytics initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level engineering degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, System Design Engineering or equivalent.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving abilities with strong communication skills.
• Experience deploying CBTC technology and willingness to collaborate with overseas teams.
• Curiosity to learn fast and engage with customers and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Technical delivery lead on CBTC projects, ensuring on‑time delivery and customer satisfaction.
• Manage technical deliverables and be the first point of contact for technical matters.
• Develop and review system and subsystem design artifacts to meet requirements.
• Analyze designs for compliance with system requirements and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Support bids and regional projects including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Australia.
• Engage in CBTC simulation facilities and participate in advanced development projects.

Senior System Design Engineer (Ref.No. R1007962) – Singapore

Hitachi Rail Ground Transportation Systems (HR GTS) is a global technology leader in rail transport with over 14,000 employees and expertise in Signalling, Communications & Supervision, Fare Collection, Digitisation and Cybersecurity. The Singapore Engineering team directly impacts commuter experience with improvements such as lower energy consumption, fewer service disruptions, and faster travel times thanks to our driverless CBTC systems. The team is also leading the development and use of cloud‑based solutions to leverage data generated during day‑to‑day passenger operation for railways worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Technical delivery lead on a selected CBTC project representing engineering and ensuring stakeholders meet customer expectations
• Manage technical project deliverables while ensuring on‑time delivery
• First point of contact for all technical matters internally and externally
• Support development and review of system and subsystem design artifacts to meet customer requirements (operational and safety)
• Analyse and evaluate designs to verify compliance with system technical requirements
• Participate in system performance monitoring and root‑cause analysis of issues faced in passenger metro operation or during testing using cloud‑based data‑analysis tools
• Present trade‑off analysis, designs and investigations to engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non‑ambiguous terms
• Contribute to productive technical discussions with customers, interface contractors and other internal departments
• Support bids and projects in Singapore and in the region including Malaysia, Hong Kong and Australia
• Work in our world‑class CBTC simulation facility to gain hands‑on experience with the signalling system hardware and software while supporting in‑house testing and issue investigations
• Support advanced development projects including Next‑Gen Green CBTC and Data Analytics

Qualifications – Required

• BASc in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, System Design Engineering or equivalent
• Curious and willing to learn technical skills fast and on the fly
• Good analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Strong communication skills to interface with customers and GTS personnel worldwide
• Willingness to collaborate with overseas teams, including occasional evening calls
• Experience and knowledge in deploying CBTC technology

Qualifications – Good to Have

• Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl or Ruby
• Previous exposure to some of the technologies we use
