Responsibilities

• Review structural designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, BIM models and technical reports.
• Provide assurance across reinforced concrete, structural steel, foundations, slabs, frames and equipment support structures.
• Assess equipment loads, vibration, seismic requirements and interfaces with specialist systems.
• Lead structural coordination with architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines.
• Identify design clashes, constructability issues and technical risks before they impact programme or cost.
• Challenge consultants and contractors and provide clear technical direction during design reviews and coordination meetings.
• Drive design optimisation around material efficiency, buildability, resilience, sustainability and long-term operation.
• Support site observations, defect resolution, punch-list close-out and final inspections.
• Maintain trackers and report critical items to programme and technical leadership.
• Contribute to improvements in owner standards, specifications and technical guidance.

Job description

Structural Technical Lead – Data Centres

Take the structural technical lead on major mission-critical data centre developments, working across buildings, substations, electrical yards, mechanical yards and wider campus infrastructure.

This is a senior technical assurance role for a structural engineer who can challenge designs, spot risk early and give clear direction to consultants and contractors — not simply produce calculations.

About the role

You’ll act as a key structural engineering authority across the project lifecycle, reviewing and assuring designs for complex data centre infrastructure.

The focus is on technical assurance, multidisciplinary coordination, constructability, resilience and design optimisation, ensuring structural solutions meet client standards while supporting programme, cost and operational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Review structural designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, BIM models and technical reports.
• Provide assurance across reinforced concrete, structural steel, foundations, slabs, frames and equipment support structures.
• Assess equipment loads, vibration, seismic requirements and structural interfaces with specialist systems.
• Lead structural coordination with architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines.

Requirements

• Strong structural engineering background on complex building or infrastructure projects.
• Excellent knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations and structural framing systems.
• Proven experience reviewing and technically assuring structural designs produced by consultants or contractors.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary interfaces across structural, civil, architectural, mechanical and electrical packages.
• Able to interrogate designs from a constructability, cost, programme, durability and resilience perspective.
• Comfortable providing technical challenge and direction to senior consultants, contractors and project stakeholders.

Experience within data centres or other mission-critical / highly serviced environments would be particularly valuable.

Relevant transferable sectors could include:

• Hyperscale or colocation data centres
• Semiconductor / advanced manufacturing
• Pharmaceutical or life sciences facilities
• Energy and power infrastructure
• Airports or technically complex infrastructure programmes

Experience with BIM360, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), 3Dx or similar cloud-based design review environments would also be useful.
