Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in Singapore seeks a hands-on Staff FPGA and Embedded Software Engineer to own FPGA firmware and embedded software for flow cytometry instruments. You will translate instrument requirements into maintainable architectures that acquire digitized signals, process cytometry events, and deliver data to instrument software.

You will collaborate with systems, optics, electrical engineers, instrument software, manufacturing, service, and external board-design partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in engineering with 8+ years relevant FPGA/embedded experience.
• Production FPGA firmware experience using Verilog/SystemVerilog across full lifecycle.
• Embedded OS concepts and development in Linux, RTOS or bare-metal.
• Experience with hardware/software interfaces and common protocols (I2C, SPI, Ethernet).
• Experience with ADC interfaces and high-throughput data acquisition.
• Ability to read schematics and support board bring-up and debugging.

Responsibilities

• Sustain, debug, document, and extend production FPGA codebases (Verilog/SystemVerilog).
• Design high-throughput FPGA data acquisition pipelines (ADC interfaces, filtering, buffering).
• Integrate FPGA firmware with embedded processors and environments (Linux/RTOS/bare-metal).
• Implement and troubleshoot I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet interfaces.
• Develop verification strategies and automated testbenches.
• Define requirements, data formats, and board-interface specs; review schematics.
• Support board bring-up, validation with oscilloscopes/logical analyzers; troubleshoot across layers.
• Support manufacturing and service with root-cause investigations and firmware changes.
• Own technical planning, estimates, risks, and communication with stakeholders.
