Overview

We are seeking a Sr. Java Spring Boot Engineer to lead the design and development of enterprise‑grade backend applications supporting large‑scale payment and infrastructure platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in modern Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, and cloud‑native development on Alibaba Cloud with strong software architecture skills and experience delivering high‑performance, mission‑critical solutions.

Job Role & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and microservices using Java 17+/21, Spring Boot, and modern software engineering best practices.
• Architect and build high‑performance, resilient, and secure systems supporting payment processing, infrastructure services, and other business‑critical platforms.
• Design RESTful APIs, event‑driven solutions, and distributed systems using technologies such as Kafka while ensuring scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.
• Collaborate with solution architects, product owners, DevOps engineers, and regional development teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Develop and deploy cloud‑native applications on Alibaba Cloud while optimizing application performance, availability, and security.
• Perform architecture reviews, system design discussions, technical leadership, and code reviews to maintain engineering excellence.
• Champion code quality through SonarQube, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and both manual and AI‑assisted development practices.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive continuous improvements in application performance and reliability.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in software architecture, coding standards, and backend engineering.

General Background

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of hands‑on experience in Java backend software engineering, with experience leading the design and development of enterprise‑scale applications.
• Proven experience delivering large‑scale payment, financial services, e‑commerce, or high‑transaction enterprise platforms is highly preferred.
• Professional proficiency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin) to effectively communicate and collaborate with regional stakeholders across APAC.

Mandatory Skills

• Strong expertise in Java 17+ (preferably Java 21), Spring Boot, JVM internals, Hibernate, RESTful APIs, Microservices Architecture, and distributed systems design.
• Hands‑on experience with Apache Kafka, SonarQube, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud‑native application deployment on Alibaba Cloud.
• Strong background in software architecture, system design, performance optimization, high availability, scalability, and secure backend application development.

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Infrastructure‑as‑Code, observability tools, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
