MINDS Fernvale Gardens School is seeking a Special Student Care Centre Officer to support the Special Student Care Centre under CSS. You will deliver person-centred care and enrichment activities for children with special needs, aged 7 to 18, and coordinate with caregivers and MINDS stakeholders to ensure holistic development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct client care to students, including routine ADL caregiving and supervision.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate teaching, learning and caregiving activities to promote independence and wellbeing.
  • Guide students in basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work-related skills.
  • Adopt creative methodologies to engage and motivate students through interactive lesson plans.
  • Document student learning and development and implement classroom management strategies.
  • Engage caregivers to facilitate continuity of care and learning between home and Centre.
  • Build rapport with colleagues and MINDS stakeholders to support programme delivery.
  • Support centre operations, health, hygiene, safety and incident reporting.

Job description

Special Student Care Centre Officer at MINDS Fernvale Gardens School contributes actively to the programme needs of Special Student Care Centre under the umbrella of Community-Based Support Services (CSS).

CSS is the dynamic and nimble service delivery arm in MINDS that response to emerging needs of PWIDs and Caregivers in the community. Examples of services include Me Too! Club, Homebased Care Services, Caregivers Support Services, Special Student Care Centres and Appropriate Adult Services to enhance integration and community living of caregivers and PWIDs in the community.

Officer integrates a range of person centred and family centric approaches and utilise Positive Behavioural framework to conduct enrichment activities for special needs children from age 7 to 18. He/She enriches the quality of life of person with special needs by supervising and providing direct physical care needs before/after school. He/she implements after school care curriculum, adapting and integrating developmentally appropriate teaching and classroom management strategies. He/She also enhance clients learning environments and supports caregiver’s needs in the care of their child. He/she coordinates with community stakeholders, volunteers and social service providers in the delivery of centre initiatives, programmes and services.

Provide direct client care
  • Provide routine ADL (activities of daily living) caregiving to students.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to students.
  • Apply a person-centred approach, plan and implement positive behavioural support in ensuring safety and holistic development of students.
Plan and implement programmes and activities
  • Plan and conduct developmentally appropriate teaching, learning and caregiving activities to promote independence, health, wellness, and quality of life.
  • Guide students in the development of basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills.
  • Adopt creative methodology to engage and motivate students in their learning through interactive lesson plans.
  • Document student's learning and development.
  • Implement classroom management strategies.
Build stakeholder relationships and partnerships
  • Engage and collaborate with caregivers to facilitate the continuity of care and learning between home and Centre.
  • Build rapport with colleagues (Centre/School) and volunteers to foster positive workplace relations.
  • Work closely with the various sectors of MINDS in the implementation of programs and in MINDS projects.
Centre operation
  • Support in centre operation secondary duties assigned.
  • Follow regulations regarding basic health, hygiene, safety and to administer proper documentation of incident report.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training/professional development and service quality improvement activities.
Qualification
  • Minimum O Levels/ITE/Diploma

  • Added advantage for those with experience in training of persons with special needs, behaviour techniques, child development, lessons plan and school-age-care best practices.
  • Fully able to participate in on-site and off-site activities.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (training provided).
