We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to ensure software reliability, test automation, and continuous quality improvement across the software development lifecycle.
The role requires strong analytical skills, hands-on test automation experience, and close collaboration with product, engineering, and business teams to implement effective testing strategies.
The successful candidate will work in an Agile and DevOps-driven environment, focusing on fast feedback loops, risk-based testing, automation, and high software quality.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Analysts to define clear and testable user story acceptance criteria.
- Work closely with Software Engineers to improve automated test coverage and prevent defects from reaching production.
- Analyse complex software systems and develop comprehensive, risk-based testing strategies.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance test automation frameworks using industry-standard tools.
- Design and execute test suites covering functional, regression, exploratory, integration, and performance testing.
- Apply a risk-based approach to test automation, prioritising critical business functions and high-impact areas.
- Conduct time-boxed exploratory testing to identify edge cases, usability issues, and potential defects.
- Maintain stable regression test suites integrated with nightly QA builds.
- Continuously improve smoke tests within CI/CD environments to support early defect detection.
- Lead system integration testing with relevant system owners to validate cross-system functionality and interactions.
- Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with business stakeholders to ensure requirements and acceptance criteria are met.
- Manage the defect lifecycle, test artefacts, test results, and repositories to ensure effective tracking and reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement of Agile testing practices, tools, processes, and methodologies.
- Support application performance engineering or application security testing as a secondary area of responsibility.
Experience & Skills
Core Testing Expertise
- Strong knowledge of test automation strategies and risk-based testing.
- Experience designing and executing test cases, test plans, and comprehensive test suites.
- Hands-on experience with manual and automated testing across web, mobile, and API-based applications.
Test Automation & CI/CD
- Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Robot Framework, Cypress, SikuliX, or EggPlant.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Bamboo, or similar tools.
- Ability to design maintainable, scalable, and reusable test automation frameworks and suites.
Agile & DevOps Testing
- Strong understanding of Agile testing methodologies, including TDD, BDD, and exploratory testing.
- Experience working in Agile environments such as Scrum, Kanban, or XP.
- Familiarity with shift-left testing practices and early defect detection.
- Experience testing applications deployed in Docker and Kubernetes environments.
Security & Performance Testing
- Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, k6, or Locust is an advantage.
- Knowledge of application security testing using tools such as OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, SAST, or DAST is an advantage.
- Experience with API security testing and authentication mechanisms such as OAuth and JWT is an advantage.
Test Management & Qualifications
- Experience managing defects and test repositories using tools such as JIRA, TestRail, or Micro Focus ALM.
- Certified Software Testing Professional (CSTP), Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA), or equivalent certification is an advantage.
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
