Job summary

YouTrip in Singapore is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager (Mobile & Backend) to lead a cross-functional team of 10+ engineers across Android, iOS, and backend, owning end-to-end products used by millions in Asia Pacific.

You will shape the technical roadmap, guide architecture and API design for scalable payments services, ensure code quality, implement CI/CD, and mentor engineers, while collaborating with Product, Design, and QA.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in engineering management.
• Proven experience leading teams of 10+ engineers across mobile and backend.
• Hands-on background in native mobile; experience with cross-platform frameworks is a plus.

Job Description: Software Engineering Manager (Mobile & Backend)

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager with strong technical depth across Android, iOS, and backend systems, and a proven record of leading large engineering teams. You'll lead a team of 10 or more engineers across one or two scrum teams, owning end-to-end products from backend services to the native mobile apps used by millions of customers across Asia Pacific. You'll play a key role in expanding our growing suite of services as we scale beyond digital fintech.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional team of 10+ engineers spanning Android, iOS, and backend, setting clear goals, supporting career growth, and running regular performance evaluations.
• Own the technical direction for both mobile and backend: app architecture, API design, service scalability, and how the pieces fit together end to end.
• Stay hands-on by contributing to codebases, performing code reviews across mobile and backend, and keeping the technical depth needed to guide the team.
• Drive mobile engineering best practices, including app performance, stability, crash-free rates, release management, and App Store / Play Store delivery.
• Design and oversee secure, high-availability backend services and APIs that support payments at scale.
• Oversee project execution across squads, ensuring on-time delivery while meeting quality and security standards.
• Uphold engineering excellence by enforcing coding standards, building test automation (unit, integration, and UI) and CI/CD pipelines for mobile and backend, and continuously improving development processes.
• Bring in emerging technologies and industry best practices to improve innovation, scalability, and developer productivity.
• Build a clear and collaborative environment within the team and with Product, Design, QA, and other cross-functional partners.
• Regularly engage with stakeholders, sharing progress, technical insights, and delivery outcomes.
• Coach engineers technically and professionally, growing senior engineers and tech leads into autonomous contributors.
• Hire and grow a high-performing, agile, self-organizing team that delivers stable, scalable, and reliable features.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering management.
• Proven experience directly managing teams of 10 or more engineers, ideally across mobile and backend disciplines.
• Strong hands-on background in native mobile development, with working knowledge of any one Android and iOS. Experience with cross-platform frameworks (e.g. Flutter, React Native) is a plus.
• Expert-level proficiency in designing and building high-performance, concurrent backend applications. Experience with Golang is a strong plus.
• Solid background in distributed systems, microservices, API design, parallel processing, and highly complex software applications.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar), CI/CD, and observability tooling.
• Experience in fintech, payments, or other highly regulated, high-security environments is a plus.
• Strong understanding of product and business metrics, and comfortable setting objectives with the OKR framework.
• A balanced approach to shipping features and engineering excellence, with a product-oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage squad-level priorities, deadlines, and outcomes.
• Comfortable taking calculated risks and making strategic decisions under uncertainty.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional and remote teams across the full development lifecycle.
