Job summary

NEXT Ventures seeks a senior backend engineer to lead futures trading platform integrations and risk-rule development. You will architect high‑performance backend systems using PHP/Laravel, Node.js, and Next.js, with event‑driven data flows and AI‑native workflows.

Join a squad focused on scalable risk management, streaming data, and reliable order routing, while guiding delivery and collaborating with Risk, Operations, and Business teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering with backend focus.
• Proven experience in high-performance, low-latency systems.
• Strong PHP/Laravel expertise; Node.js and Next.js experience preferred.
• Experience integrating trading platforms via FIX APIs.
• Familiarity with AI-native engineering workflows is a plus.

Your Role in Our Mission

You will lead the Futures Trading Rules & Risk Squad, building the systems that power risk management, abuse detection, and trading platform connectivity for one of FundedNext’s fastest-growing business lines. You will architect backend-heavy trading infrastructure, drive platform integrations such as Rithmic and CQG, and build configurable rule engines that enable risk and operations teams to manage futures trading safely and efficiently. Alongside deep technical ownership, you will lead squad delivery, stakeholder collaboration, and AI-native engineering practices to ensure scalable, high-performance execution.

How You’ll Make An Impact

Trading Platform Architecture & Integrations

• Architect and own futures trading platform integrations including Rithmic and CQG, ensuring reliable, low-latency data flow and order routing
• Design scalable event-processing pipelines for market data ingestion, order events, and risk evaluations
• Build backend systems that support platform independence and reduce operational dependency on third-party vendors

Risk Systems & Rule Engine Development

• Design and implement the Futures Rules Engine and Abuse Detection System with configurable trading rules and breach detection logic
• Build investigation tooling for futures-specific abuse patterns including HFT, spoofing, copy trading, and hedging violations
• Develop configurable risk management systems allowing operations and risk teams to manage rules and margin parameters without code deployments

Backend Performance & Data Optimization

• Conduct proactive query optimization and performance tuning across high-volume futures trading systems
• Design scalable database schemas and indexing strategies for trade logs, risk events, and position data
• Implement reliable event-driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams, or similar technologies

Squad Leadership & Stakeholder Management

• Lead engineering standards, code reviews, technical documentation, and architectural consistency across PHP/Laravel and Next.js systems
• Manage delivery priorities, sprint execution, dependency coordination, and technical trade-offs within the squad
• Partner closely with Risk, Operations, and Business teams to translate complex requirements into scalable technical solutions

AI‑Native Engineering & Development Workflow

• Operate using modern AI‑native engineering workflows including Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or similar tools
• Leverage AI agents for task delegation, debugging, code review, and project-level workflow optimization
• Drive productivity and engineering quality through AI‑augmented development practices across the squad

What You Bring

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend architecture expertise in high-performance systems
• Expert proficiency in PHP/Laravel, with strong experience in Node.js, Next.js, and event-driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams, or similar technologies
• Proven experience integrating trading platforms, FIX APIs, broker connectivity layers, or financial trading infrastructure
• Strong database architecture and optimization skills using MySQL or PostgreSQL for high-volume financial data systems
• Experience building configurable rule engines, risk management systems, or auditable business logic platforms within fintech, prop trading, or brokerage environments
• Solid understanding of futures trading concepts, abuse detection patterns, compliance requirements, and operational risk workflows
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across Risk, Operations, Business, and Engineering teams
• Mandatory hands‑on experience with AI‑native engineering workflows using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or similar AI coding agents
