Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications and services using Python.
• Build scalable and secure RESTful APIs / backend services to support web, mobile and AI applications.
• Develop and enhance LLM-powered applications and conversational chatbot solutions.
• Integrate applications with Large Language Models (LLMs) and external AI/model APIs.
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows to retrieve relevant enterprise information and improve LLM responses.
• Develop data ingestion, document processing, embedding and retrieval workflows for AI applications.
• Work with vector databases/search technologies to support semantic search and knowledge retrieval.
• Implement prompt engineering, context management and conversation workflows for chatbot applications.
• Integrate backend services with databases, enterprise systems and third-party APIs.
• Develop reusable and maintainable backend components following best practices.
• Perform unit testing, integration testing, debugging and performance optimisation.
• Monitor and troubleshoot application performance and production issues.
• Implement authentication, logging and secure API development.
• Containerise and deploy applications using Docker and cloud environments.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to architecture and design.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer with strong Python development experience to build and enhance scalable backend services and AI-powered applications, including LLM and chatbot solutions. You will work closely with product, AI/ML and engineering teams to develop APIs, integrate AI models and deliver reliable production-grade applications.

• Job Type: Contract
• Salary Package: Up to $10,000 (basic) + AWS

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications and services using Python.
• Build scalable and secure RESTful APIs / backend services to support web, mobile and AI applications.
• Develop and enhance LLM-powered applications and conversational chatbot solutions.
• Integrate applications with Large Language Models (LLMs) and external AI/model APIs.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, AI/ML Engineers, frontend developers and other stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
• Maintain technical documentation and support continuous improvement of development practices.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in backend/software development, with strong hands-on programming experience in Python.
• Experience with Python backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices and backend application architecture.
• Hands-on experience developing or integrating LLM, Generative AI or chatbot applications.
• Familiarity with LLM platforms/models such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Llama or equivalent.
• Experience with RAG, embeddings, semantic search and vector databases would be highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex or equivalent would be beneficial.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or Redis.
• Good understanding of Git, CI/CD, Docker and cloud environments.
• Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of authentication, application security and secure API development.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, testing, debugging and system design.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
