Job summary

Argyll Scott Asia is seeking a hands-on Software Engineer to design, build, and support robust Java/Kotlin applications in a fast-paced financial services environment. You will contribute to API design, data layer improvements and cloud-ready deployments.

The role requires strong Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, and SQL skills, plus familiarity with Linux, AWS, CI/CD and testing practices. This 12‑month contract offers opportunities to extend as projects evolve.

Qualifications

• / Experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot in enterprise apps.
• / Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms and OOD.
• / Proficiency with SQL and relational databases (MySQL/Oracle).
• / Familiarity with Linux, AWS, CI/CD and containerisation.
• / Experience with Git and IDEs like IntelliJ.
• / Banking/financial services exposure is a plus.

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands‑on Software Engineer to join the Software Engineering team, responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting robust, scalable Java/Kotlin applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain applications using Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, EJB, MySQL, Oracle and IBM MQ.
• Analyse business and system requirements and translate them into scalable, fit‑for‑purpose technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex legacy defects and production issues.
• Ensure adherence to coding, security and performance standards.
• Participate in application design, development, testing and implementation.
• Work closely with business and technical stakeholders and communicate complex technical issues effectively.
• Apply TDD and software engineering best practices to deliver high‑quality solutions.

Key Requirements

• Strong hands‑on experience with Core Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms and object‑oriented design.
• Experience with JUnit, TDD, REST/SOAP, JMS/IBM MQ and SQL.
• Good understanding of relational databases and SQL query optimisation.
• Basic experience with Linux, AWS, CI/CD and containerisation.
• Experience with Git, IntelliJ and SonarQube/SonarLint.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Banking or financial services experience is preferred.

Good to have: JBoss, JPA, EJB, Kafka and ReactJS.
