Job summary

FoodMax in Singapore seeks a seasoned backend engineer to design, develop and operate core platform services for order, warehouse, delivery, reconciliation and settlement.

You will own service decomposition, API design, data pipelines and DevSecOps, using Java/Spring Boot, MySQL/Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud deployments (Alibaba Cloud/AWS). English required; Mandarin helpful.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years backend or full-stack development with ownership of complex systems.
• Strong Java & Spring Boot, MySQL/Redis, data modelling, SQL performance and distributed transactions.
• Familiar with microservices, REST APIs, messaging queues, caching, and distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD; hands-on cloud deployment (Alibaba Cloud, AWS).
• Solid CS fundamentals and good communication skills.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

About the Company and Team

FoodMax is a Singapore-based supply chain technology company serving restaurants and other B2B customers with fresh food, providing end-to-end services from ordering, warehousing and picking, cold-chain delivery to statement reconciliation and settlement. Our engineering team builds and operates the foodmax platform in-house, covering the core chain of order, warehouse, delivery, reconciliation, fund clearing and settlement, and integration with finance systems. The platform runs on Alibaba Cloud in Singapore with a containerised microservice architecture. You will join the core platform team responsible for designing, developing, integrating and operating these systems.

Responsibilities

System Design and Architecture

• Participate in the overall architecture of the business platform; own service decomposition, domain modelling and API specifications for core domains such as order, warehouse, delivery, reconciliation and settlement; design scalable distributed microservices.
• Analyse business and user needs and translate them into technical designs and system specifications, evaluating performance, capacity, security and cost; produce design documents and lead technical reviews.

Core System Development

• Build backend services in Java / Spring Boot for order fulfilment, inventory and cost calculation, automated statement generation by billing cycle, fund splitting and settlement, and voucher and payment data integration with finance systems (expense management, FMS, Oracle EBS).
• Continuously evolve existing systems: refactor core modules, optimise database and caching design, improve throughput and latency under high concurrency, and safeguard the integrity and consistency of financial data.

Data and Hardware Integration

• Design and implement inter-system data pipelines that deliver business data accurately and completely to the big data platform (Hadoop / Hive) and third-party systems, with validation and reconciliation mechanisms.
• Integrate with warehouse and delivery hardware (handheld scanners / PDAs, label printers, temperature-monitoring and in-vehicle devices) and external payment channels; define integration specifications and performance requirements.

Infrastructure and DevSecOps

• Own containerisation and Kubernetes deployment of services, maintain CI/CD pipelines, drive infrastructure as code (IaC) and automated releases, and embed security practices such as code scanning, dependency vulnerability checks and least-privilege access.
• Implement technical controls for production access, change management and audit compliance; support internal and external IT audits (ITGC / ITAC) with system evidence.

Reliability and Operations

• Build monitoring, alerting and logging; define availability objectives for critical paths; take part in incident response, root cause analysis and post-incident reviews to reduce failure rates and recovery time.
• Manage the scheduling, monitoring and failure handling of batch jobs, ensuring critical jobs such as reconciliation and voucher posting complete on time and correctly.

Testing and Quality

• Define and execute unit, integration and end-to-end testing strategies; build automated testing and quality gates; lead pre-release validation and post-release verification.

Requirements

Essential

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of backend or full-stack software development experience, including end-to-end ownership of complex business systems from design through production operations.
• Strong command of Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem; proficient in MySQL and Redis, with skills in data modelling, SQL performance tuning and distributed transaction handling.
• Familiar with microservice architecture, RESTful API design, message queues, caching and other distributed system components.
• Familiar with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines; hands‑on deployment and operations experience on a cloud platform (Alibaba Cloud, AWS or similar).
• Solid computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking); good documentation and communication skills.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred

• Experience with supply chain, e‑commerce, logistics, or payment / settlement systems.
• Experience with observability platforms (e.g. Prometheus / Grafana) or DevSecOps practices.
• Front‑end development with TypeScript / React / Next.js.
• Data pipeline development on big data platforms (Hadoop / Hive / Spark).
• Ability to communicate in Mandarin, as the role collaborates with engineering teams in China.
